What to put with a male betta?

I know. I'd love to give it to my goldies, but I think the tubes would probably be dangerous for them soon, once they get bigger, my pearlscale especially. I think I'll just make it a nice big tropical community tank if I get it. Up my school sizes that I originally had planned, get a few more pineapple swordtails than I had planned, let my shrimp and snails have lots of babies, and figure out a few more species to add. Plus my betta of course.

Ok, so today I took out some of the gravel (decided it was too high) and cut up a sponge to go over the filter intake to snail/shrimp proof.

My cycle seems to be going already! Ammonia tested at .5 (tap is 2.00 currently), Nitrite is at 0, and Nitrate is 5. Not too shabby after a day.

Your tap has an ammonia reading? That doesn't sound good. Also, have you tested it for trates? Mine is Amm 0, trite 0, trate 5.

What a nice betta. You are really making me want to pick one out now instead of waiting as per the original plan.
