What to put with a male betta?

Mesto, go for it! I loved my betta. SO full of personality and so pretty! You can always get more tanks for the others too....LOL! (Seriously how do we all pay our bills?! I dropped $450 on my goldie tank plus a few things for my 10 gallon this weekend) And I will definitely be posting pictures. I was going to clean out the 10 today, but thanks to a massive hangover (oops) I'll have to do it tomorrow. Shrimp are getting here in two weeks or so, and once they're settled, I'll add the cardinals, then betta. YAY! :)

Stephy, glad I could be of service. I think they're really pretty and will be a nice balance of color between my cardinals and the pineapple swordtails. They're being added once I upgrade to the 20 gallon. :)
 
Yay! The tank was emptied yesterday. Waiting until my shipment from amazon and fosters smith gets here, then filling it up! :)

Cool! All my materials (except MAYBE substrate, I may do black substrate instead of the gravel and flourite I have waiting) are sitting around in my spare room ready to go. I'm going on vacation next week though so I will have to wait to set it up until I get back. Boo!

You are really helping me think betta is the way to go! I love my pearl gouramis like crazy. So heck, let's try another anabantoid! Little does my husband know this may mean I need a 29gal to try out cichlids some day :Angel:
 
I'm just waiting on a heater and some new plants and decor. My filter has been reseeding for the last week or two, and I rinsed out my gravel (its a mix of mostly natural with like 1/6 black...surprisingly, I actually kinda like it, and I have enough for when I switch to a 20 in a pail).

I like your logic. :) I told my fiancee that when we get married and buy/build our house I need an extra bedroom for a fish room, lol.

Question though...if I put a heater behind a plastic plant and/or a ceramic cave, is that bad?

My tank is all set up, filled with water, and should hopefully be done cycling soon! I'm getting some snails from JamieMonster Wednesday, and my yellow shrimp from Ashes2Ashes this week too weather permitting. :)

ANDDDDDD I also picked out my betta! I found this gorgeous little man on aquabid. $30 is a bit much for a betta, but he's sooooo pretty, I just couldn't help myself.

Thank you! He's coming from a breeder in Thailand, I'm very excited!!! :) There's going to be a lot of orange/yellow fish and red/blue fish when all is said and done, I think he will tie it all together nicely. :)

I may even have an opportunity to get a tank from a coworker...she said her husband bought it from seaworld a few years ago, and it's 2 55 gallons connected with two cylindrical tubes. If I like it and she accepts the price I offer her, they'll be upgraded to that, once it's here and cycled! :)
