Just thought it would be fun for everyone to share. I'm looking to get corals soon.

My first coral in my 40 gal is going to be acropora or elegance coral, both are around $10, and pretty easy to keep, although i have had some zoanthid, but crabs nipped them and killed them.

The first corals in the tank were hitchhiking cladocora, phyllangia and siderastrea. Once I convinced myself that I could keep them alive, I traded some baby cichlids for a toadstool leather. Years down the line, a larger tank, and several fraggings later, it still has a prominent place. It came with a chunk of a stony coral at the base, which has grown into a nic green, and still unidentified, encrusting coral.

I haven't actually got it in my tank yet, but I'm getting a green star polyp.

You're probably jumping in the deep end if your first corals are going to be acros or elegance.

Acros, while gorgeous and relatively easy compared to some other SPS, are still light and flow hogs (lots and lots of both) and require the absolutely pristine waters that all SPS do.

Elegance corals used to be simple to keep, but in recent years the mortality rate of captive elegance corals has grown alarmingly. They wither away for seemingly no reason.

I think it's great that your considering this route, but I hope you understand the specific issues of these two types of coral.
