my poor anemone isnt looking too good he comes out every now and then but for the past week he's had brownish colored tips and hes staying sucked inside. thats going on for 2 days now. is he just lacking nutrients?
no lol. not the cycling tank. no nutrients for him in there yet. its a long tentacled atlantic anemone. hes in a 20 gal tank thats about 5 months old. anemones been in tank about 3 months. water params are perfect. in a tank with 2 seahorses and liverock. lighting is just standard light that came with tank.
Not sure about that specific species, but most anemones need very good light, either T5HO or MH. I don't know what kind of light you have, but I'm guessing its not that powerful. I'm also not sure about the compatibility of seahorses and anemones, especially in a tank that small, but I'm sure someone will chime in on that one.
No, Atlantic (Condy) anemones do not need "very good light". They will do better with better light, but can survive for years under a crappy 1 bulb CF light. Not guaranteed, but is possible from experience.
Ya, 20G is too small IMO for any anemone, even an condy.
Anemones eat meaty foods like shrimp/fish/etc. They are not "filter feeders" and do not eat nurtients out of the water.. they eat like fish eat. They are inverts.. not corals. My atlantic anemone eats at least a cube of "meaty" food a day.
That was what mine was sold to me as.. a "Long Tentacle White Atlantic Anemone".. Later on, from research, I learned it was a condy. LFS had no idea there was even a difference.
lol. well he was only in there for the clowns and they were given to a friend. im waiting for the 55 to cycle before i place him in there. hes really small. all the way out hes only like 3 inches. im not going to give him a cube a day but ill start feeding him more. a cube a day really cant be good for the tank.
