What Works for Me May Not Work for You

I forgot to mention:
I still have about 50 fish bags about 2 years old, because I think I will find a use for them some day...

HAHA i keep the bags too lollll!!

And i also can never let petstore tank water into mytank!! hell no

I, too, keep fish bags (and crickets bags to since they're the same). I actually use them on a regular basis. I've discovered they have quite a few uses.

lol...i've got at least a dozen of them. i use them sometimes when i give away guppies to my freinds. i always think i might just need them later.

One more item:

Murphy's Law is real, folks. If you're leaving town for 5 days, assume this is precisely when the autofeeder, pressurized CO2 injection solenoid, submersible heater, sump etc. will fail. Try to prepare for this inevitability by building in redundancy, turning off non-critical systems, or otherwise providing for supervision/tank-sitting by a knowledgable individual. The "dog-sitter" will not get the job done here...

* I quarantine fish always, sometimes from 2 sources at once :lipssealedsmilie: Often for a long time til I find room for them.

* I have live plants & algae of several kinds in all my tanks

* I (almost) never clean the outside of the tanks

* I have filter parts & food containers as room decor in 3 rooms but white buckets & dirty towel in only 1

* I use tap water to clean filters

* I rarely test, used to use strips but now have API liquid & TDS meter due to forum pressure

* I almost never use carbon & have many, many packets stashed, along with some 25+ year old fish stuff in the basement. You never know what you'll need again

* I euthanize fish without treating if I'm pretty sure nothing will help, to protect other fish & my sanity

* I have a "fish bathroom" with Python in the tub, syphon hoses & bags on the rod & lingerie on the towel bars

* I like but don't love my Python

* I say "yeah, uh huh" to my husband when I'm really watching my fish :evil_lol:

* I bring rocks home from vacation as souvenirs for my tanks

I'm a little suprised by how many people clean their filters in tap water... the thought of that scares the dickens out of me! I have a pitcher that I use pretty much just for that. Scoop some tank water into it, clean the media, empty it, repeat. about 10 cups of tank water and the media is clean and still loaded with BB.

Agreed. When you wash your media in tap water it does not wash off the BB it kills it. Then in turn it creates ammonia in your tank from the dead and decaying bacteria :)
