What Works for Me May Not Work for You

I do wc's on my 36g every two weeks and a filter rinse monthly only change it if is shot.
I do wc's on my 3 g and 2.5 g weekly for my bettas
I do wc on my 5g for my betta every two weeks
I like gravel better than sand
I have artificial plastic and silk plants in my 36g and silk in my betta tanks I have no idea how to care for a real planted tank.
I gravel vac with wc's
Works for me!

I do wc's every few weeks :lipsealedsmiley:

I gravel vac my planted tanks

I use HOB filters

I never test my water unless I think something's wrong or I'm cycling

I never use fertilizers because I always forget too...lol

(I'm sure there's more but i'm having a brain block...LOL)

* runs away before she gets beaten for not doing enough maitenence *

I do 50% water changes on the 5,10, and 15 every week.
I do 25% water changes on the 55 every week.
My 55 is probably overstocked according to some.
I gravel vac my planted tanks (Didn't know I shouldn't. Couldn't stand looking at dirty gravel anyways)
I have angels in with neon tetras.
I let green algae grow on the walls of my shrimp tank as a food source.
I don't feed my fish everyday.
I have OD'd excel and my vals didn't melt.
All my tanks have DIY c02 and CFL lighting. Plant growth is decent.
I have well water and don't usually use a water conditioner.
I never test my water unless cycling or something seems off.
I rarely QT. Only if getting fish from a new source.

I only test my water if I suspect something is out of sorts anymore. (test tap periodically)
I only clean out my canisters once I notice a decrease in flow-rate from them. (one at a time, never both)
I boil the heck out of driftwood for 2-3 hours, soak it overnight, next morning, in the tank it goes.
I float bags for 30 mins-1 hour, and do my own weird drip acclimation over the next 45 mins.
I don't feed every single day.
Sometimes I'll intentionally over-feed a little to give the MTS a chance to munch.
I've purchased fish from Petsmart. (used to work there too)
I adopted a fish with a deformity, and to this day he seems to be happy and healthy, sans his curved spine. I've had him for probably close to 4 years.
I have two corydoras. I have had a total of 8, up to 6 at one point. Two were bullied to death by old tank mates, two passed with no visible sign of issues, and two quite literally disappeared. I found a skull in the sand months later by complete chance. The two I have are tough little buggers, and seem completely content with each other, and schooling with my yoyo loaches.

I rarely test my water.

My biggest tank is 10 gallons -- I've downsized as I got older.

I can't keep cories alive, and have never been able to figure out why.

My main tank is overstocked according to some.

I gravel vac my planted tanks every week.

I always drip acclimate.

I double dose with Prime when doing water changes, since a bad incident where the recommended dose wasn't enough for the chloramine in the water supply that day.

I rinse my filter media in tap water and haven't noticed any ammonia spikes

I don't like sand as a substrate -- it shows all the poop

I got rid of my black beard algae by adding nitrogen with every water change

wow this is an awesome thread.

-never had a QT tank, never had a problem.
-don't like prime, only nova aqua+
-started both my 20H and 55 with UGFs, both have come out. tanks look so much better less cluttered
-finally bought my first 2 American cichlids yesterday because i couldn't make up my mind (african....american.....african....american)
-swtiched my 20H to black sand, now I hate the white gravel in my 55
-25% WC weekly
-use a 5 gallon water jug only, i can de-chlor the water as it goes in
-in the process of building a sump out of two 10g tanks, costing me more than i could buy an fx5 for, but worth all the $ and work to me
-can't wait to take a perfectly good running 55 gallon tank down to drill for a sump, replace substrate, and add plants (with no fatalities of course)
-can't get enough of DIY ideas
-can't stay off this forum

oh, oh , oh, i got another one. i used rain water and reconstituted it to my params for all my tanks (including hospital) for this entire summer to keep my fish healthy. i have cured 2 fish of columnaris and aeromonis with this water and everyone else seems a lot more healthy actually.

before anyone asks my water company is doing maintenance on my mains and ammonia out of the tap is well over .75 currently... but it's been a very irregular monsoon season. i've saved close to $500 just on the price of spring water so far and counting! :grinyes:

i still know i have more. :22_yikes: :shakehead:

I thought of a few more:

* I name all of my fish "Bob", after Bob Dylan.

* I talk to my fish when I feed them.

* When I go out of town, I don't have anyone feed my fish. Never lost one yet.

* I'm a night owl so I cover the tanks with dark towels at night so the fish get some darkness.

* I keep three otos in a 10 gallon tank and they are doing fine with no supplemental foods. I toss algae wafers in once every 2 weeks and the otos ignore them. Same with cucumbers.

i use prime, although after reading this might change it

i test my water to much

30% water changes twice a month

i use carbon in my sump

i have to many different fish in my tank

Keep fry in mother tank, but separated as not to get eaten.
Never fed them anything but adult food crushed very tiny.
Change out plants from the mother tank with the fry plants to give them fresh things to nibble on.
New babies live in a solid plastic container with many holes.
Then medium fry move to a large fishnet to get closer with the adults and water conditions(plants are also interchanged here).
Then at about 2CM, they are released in the 'forest' to slowly mingle with the others.
This is only in my 55 Livebearer tank.
Parents fed 2x a day, 3x when females are about to drop to help other fish be less interested.
