Haha! Yea right...

You guys seem to just be talking about large fish... in that category, i place my vote on a Clown Knifefish...just look up "featherback" in google images... wow...OR, the arapaima since they ARE semi-attainable, but you need a permit and they grow to over 15 feet long :thud:

Aggressive... I would have to point at the paraya... sabre-tooth fish... They aren't big, really, but they are vicious and will impale your hand with their teeth when they get the chance...

Red belly piranhas are pretty **** mean, once I got them they wiped my tank .They killed my plecos ,bottom feeders (like cory cats and stuff) and now I only have 3 out of 6 piranhas because the bigger ones killed the smaller ones , and all these fishes they killed were about 4 times their size but they didnt touch my parrots :D

thats a diff species... the one I'm talking about grows to a foot and is "more suited" to aquarium environments.

Which one is that? The only ones that I've seen available in the aquarium trade (as "payara", "vampire tetra"...) are Hydrolycus armatus and Hydrolycus scomberoides, both of which can achieve lengths in excess of 2ft, such as the one in that picture (which is H. armatus).

As I understand it, there are only two other species in the Hydrolycus genus, both of which I am unfamiliar with. I've also never encountered them in the hobby.

I'd love to keep a payara that only achieves a length of a foot, as the potential size has always kept me from getting one. Let me know which species I should look for. Thanks.

Meanest Thing i ever brought home was a blood parrot. Yeah they seem all docile in the store and you read about how you have to watch out what you put them in with cause they cant defend themseleves. Yeah ah BS i say! The little ******* wasnt even a inch long. In less then a hour it took out a full grown platy and my full grown betta. :sad

On the contrary, they grow quite large: http://tinypic.com/18ejic

I've never kept one, personally, and can't comment on the disposition.

There is only one 'paraya' I know and that's what Raskolnikov posted.
Oddball, maybe you meant 'piraya' which is the Piranha family.
