Its not about how you're raised. Its about the surroundings you're in.Hang with bad people, become bad people.

yeh very true, but how you are raised must still be pretty important. like if you had grown up all your life with your parents stealing things all the time, chances are that you are probably going to think that its ok to steal. children usualy follow there parent s example

I agree that surroundings play a big part. My two brothers were quiet and I was more rowdy and adventurous. But I still knew the difference between right and wrong even though a lot of the things I done were wrong. Being a rebel teen is one thing, but it's how you take it with you as an adult. Well that's my opinion. I'm no psychologist :)

John I agree that how one is raised often determines their moral behavior but plenty of criminals were raised to be different than they are. The basic flaw in most criminal thinking is that they're smarter than their victims. The reality is they often work harder at lawlessness than they would if they got a job. In some countries the crime rates we have are unheard of, because there are very real punishments there. I think IceH2O hit the nail on the head. Once poeple realize that actions have real consequences, behavior modifies. The comment I made about the lions in the bush was directed toward the fact that we walk around among the most vicious predator on the planet on a daily basis; each other.

:bowing: Well said people!! I can't believe that I actually found a forum where I'm not the odd one out in my political beliefs!! I am a poli sci major and have a really hard time finding people in my spectrum to relate to, usually I end up :argue: What a breath of fresh air!

LOL, thats brilliant, i'll try that next time!

if there is a next time that is. one question, have you ever tried saying that to someone?

You are a sick, twisted woman, TheMightyQueenPixie and I would like to take this opportunity to express my undying love.

The gun point is completely ridiculous. If you carry a hand gun, they'll start carrying semi-automatics. Yuo carry a semi-automatic, they'll carry an automatic. It's going to be a snowball effect.

In this day and age, where being cool is having a cell phone or an iPod, I think crime should be attributed in large part, to the fact that a lot of families and kids are less fortunate than us, and can't afford all of that stuff. On the other hand, the human population is sooo big, we couldn't afford to have everybody with the same financial status. I guess we'll just have to accept that nothing will ever eliminate crime completely...

Also, if everybody was raised by good parents, I don't think there would be a bad crowd. But that would be close to impossible to see happen!
