Not once have you PM'ed me on all the rules I break, but rather take shots at me here.

What's up with that?

(read above previous post first, thanks..)

In both of those cases, I posted publicly as a reminder of the rules in GCC. In at least one case, you seemed to agree with me.

In the case of this thread, I made a little joke. You responded in a way that I felt was belittling and dismissive of my experiences and opinions. I defended myself publicly, explaining why I felt a need to look at some threads, and why I thought you were off base.

I like the odd news stories you post, as well as the UFOs, and do not have it in for you. Believe it or not, I would be unhappy if you were to leave. I just find it frustrating that you don't seem to care that some of the threads you create are likely to cause trouble.

If you feel persecuted, that was not my intention.

Having been in 28 different countries over the last 9-1/2 years (have to find my map with the pins in it) and having had to use foreign news and wire outlets to get a picture of local news, government and people go about their daily business of living...well, in the poll I picked Reuters (not for all items, puh-leeze).

A surprising number of foreign sources provide English subtitles; web-translators are everywhere. I mean, there are some worldwide news items that 125gJoe gets that remind me an awful lot of the news content I used to see as a worldwide traveller. There's also the fun stuff he digs up, which I happen to enjoy as well...nothing like emphasis of the absurd with the price of admission being an open mind to laugh a little. It shouldn't be too difficult to filter out the serious stuff from the humor, but I imagine some people do have a difficult time. Hopefully, they're not on Aquaria Central. :)

There's a lot of "unbelieveable" stuff out there until you are a part of it. Then you wonder how Americans, on average, can be so incredibly without clue...but it's easy to figure out why. Whereas in most countries the broadcasters spell out news stories in an intelligent fashion, the best we get is a 20 second sound bite of each story. It's so dumbed down. Even that is probably more than we can handle. Whereas capable journalists of a not-too-distant timeframe like Koppel, Huntley and Brinkley are quickly forgotten here, people emulating their delivery methods are springing up outside of our borders, and the fine quality of their broadcast news reflects this trend. Some days I couldn't even pronounce their names, but reading the English crawler at the bottom of the screen made me marvel at their knowledge of the subject matter they'd choose to broadcast.

Crossing the ocean (just name one), it was nice to dial up the BBC on HF and hear a broadcaster with a halfway intelligent delivery.

On a sad note, these days we Americans get stuck with schlock like Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper 360, and Stone Phillips. The marvelous Ernie Pyle hasn't been replaced since his demise in WWII, though his New Mexico home is still open as a tribute to what a real journalist was supposed to be.

125gJoe, you add your own personal accent to AQ Central. I'm glad you're on board.

joephys, I'm surprised that U.S. journalists of today actually figured this out recently...decades after it became obvious to everyone else on the planet.

Let's, see...what has more intellectual content? Hmmm, "Good Morning America" or "Ren and Stimpy"?

Unlike GMA, I can actually see the simple twisted genius in the conception and production of Ren and Stimpy.

Okay, enough ranting...I'm also with the group of people who voted "All Knowing".

Whew, I thought you would have had a boatload of examples!

No, not to cause trouble, but to cause 'thinking'.... that's all.

I apologize for bringing up current events of hatred and terror. The first example you quoted was a newsworthy event I felt was "buried" by the 'news media' with hardly any mention of it. I only heard about it on a talk radio show. I won't listen to biased CNN, etc. Also, as I mentioned previously - within this topic/thread, that I feel passionately about my country and what's going on these days. Guess its best to quell those feelings here.

mogurnda, why was it on those 'examples', you came in at the very end of the postings, and not earlier? Just wondering; 5 pages later...?
Its history - you don't have to answer...

On to 'belittlements'...

As your shovel seemed picturesquely belittling. One belittle seemed open for another belittle. ... :D

I'm out of time for belittles. They're not much fun anyway...

Thanks..! I really am trying to post events that most would not hear about. Of course I hope most know that the really bizzarre topics may not be totally true, but fun to ponder...
Oh, yes... The price of admission for an open-mind is very affordable! That is very true.

I now know several topics cannot be discussed,
logically, or otherwise -
and I will do my best to avoid them -
even if its 'newsworthy.'
I wonder who coined the phrase "The truth hurts"? --- :thm:

Take care. I may be back when I find my sense of humor. Post whatever you want.

There are topics that are not allowed.
Seems everything has been covered.

I have no problem with any topic being discussed. I think the vast majority of arguments on here are a good thing. It is the one time when people stop playing "nice" and will really tell you what they feel and think on a subject.

It opens your mind to other views on various topics without the normal societal behaviour that ensures that you get no opposing opinions to yours.

I would LOVE for AC to have a thread labeled "ANYTHING GOES".

That would be awesome.

I think I know what you mean. If so, I agree.
But, that would shut down GCC again. And I don't want that...

There's a point within intense disagreements where both sides need to "agree to disagree" and 'walk away'.. This is common courtesy. But, what almost always happens is one side gets called a bad name, or gets a derogatory 'label', and things get out of hand. Heck, I've been recently labelled... :D

Within this thread (previous postings), its obvious certain topics need to remain off-limits.

Watcher74, if you find another website with the "anything goes" topic and you are posting there, let me know... :D

:hang:
.....

Back on topic...

Time to gather up some news...
