I am looking to buy a 55g tank and all i found at petstores are 50g or anything else other then 55g. I would think an online site would be cheaper to. Im buying all my other stuff from drsfostersmith.com because they have really good deals but the only 55g tank they got comes with extras that i dont need.

I don't mean to sound trite, but keep your eyes open at yard sales. When I was about 5 my mother found a 20 gallon tank at a yard sale or an auction for a steal. It also helps to befriend employees of the LFS, they are usually some of the first to know when an exasperated customer wants "out" of the fishkeeping world. Sorry that this does not help much in the immediate sense, but good luck.

Honestly, I got my 55g from walmart. I LOVE the stand you can buy. Including the stand, filter, lights (only 30w total, but enough for a fish only tank) and all were only 230. I've replaced the filter with a fluval 304 (from bigals for 80bucks), but even still, thats so much cheaper where I live than buying the pieces separate. Actually, all my tanks are from walmart. They're great imo - obvioulsy not the BEST filtration (on the 29 and 55) but still good. I use the filter that came with it for the 29g.

You can see the stand you can get at walmart on my website in my sig. Its black and has four cabinet doors and quite sturdy.

EDIT: online sites: the price will be cheaper, but add to that the immense shipping of a 55g tank/stand/hood!!!

55 is one of the more standard sizes. I'd look around a little bit.

Almost everything is cheaper online, except for tanks. If you want a big glass box, you're probably going to be better off buying it close to home rather than shipping it from way off yonder.

man forgot about walmart, i think im gunna head over there now.

Also check the classifieds, local bargin traders and the add's on the cork boards at grocery stores...

My area (NW INDY) is awash with 30 and 55g tanks for sale.

Also walmart is a good idea (as said above), and with a no hassel return policy, a leaky tank is easily replaced!

If buying new, usually non-pet stores (WalMart) has better deals than pet stores.

If buying used, classifieds or yard sales.

how much would a 55g tank be at walmart?

Well, the WalMart here has a 55g tank with oak stand for $499 Canadian... about $350 US, I think it works out to... pretty **** good deal. (at least around here)
