Where'd all the "oldtimers" go?

after some time you just get tired of giving the same advice over and over.
True but this will always happen. The same thing can be said with other forums. It will be up to you if you like to give the same advice or not. I'm patient and still try to help others despite seeing some questions repeated over and over.:) The sticky threads, I agree with you, help a lot and even lessen the burden of people to help those who are in need.

hey hey hey..... my postings went down when i became a mod. dang haters.....
Really, Mg?:jaw:
i guess that makes my the unreliable one.... i can live with that.
No one told you that.:silly: You are helpful.:D

I've gotten good advice from the ones that have posted here on this thread! thanks to them, i have saved some fish too!

My post count is not super high, mainly because I try to give accurate sound advise. I have been in the hobby about 10 years. I don't consider myself a newbie but I don't know everything either. I give advise mostly from experience. I have also learned a lot from others and from reading. I can only help on issues that I know about. I can say I like to help newbies out first and that is usually where I start when I log in.

As a total newb I try and limit myself to what I have personally encountered or read and understand, and I try and clarify from which source I am advising.

I would guess that's it's the "NATURE OF THE BEAST" that when you speak up & try to assist people with their "problems" that you will have to also be able to quantify & qualify any & every statement that you make.

Personally I, ( & I've been in the hobby since the 80's & on online sites since the mid 90's),...get/have gotten a lot of HELP from loads of people here. Heck I've been in the shadows & watching for a very long time now & just decided to change my forgotten password & post.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't look to just the same older in the hobby & experienced folks, to get the answers that I need. I'd be a darned fool not to pay attention to them & add what they say to the information that I can compile here,...but I find that experience & sage knowledge doesn't come from post counts & you don't have to be here for a long time to have amassed some information that can help someone.

To me,...if people (old timers) don't want to help like they use to, that's not a bad thing, b/c who wants advice from someone that is fatigued or needs a break from the grind of saying the same things over & again, when they don't necessarily want to ?

To me it's far better FOR ALL INVOLVED, to take what you can get & compile it, from where it's offered & CHOOSE WHAT YOU THINK IS RIGHT FOR YOU & when those old timers get a second wind & feel like speaking up, in the ebb & flow of advice & how it's given,....THEY WILL.

I really appreciate those of you who give advice, ( I KNOW IT'S NOT ALWAYS EASY & MANY TIMES IT'S THANKLESS),... whether I agree with it or not, b/c when it all boils down,...I have to be ready for accepting advice as well as you guys have to be ready & willing to give it & ultimately it's up to me to make the INFORMED decision.

Also, it isn't like there has ever been a shortage of experienced people who are willing to give advice (and by the way, I'm not at all referring to myself). It's almost like there's just been an increase or ignoramuses who refuse to educate themselves, and who don't hold themselves up to the higher standards of doing things right.

It *is* collaborative. We all just have to be patient, I guess. And perservere through education. :)
