I will soon be getting a new 4ft tank , I already have an oscar ,
just cannot make up my mind on fish for new tank ,Angels ,Discus, acaras or cichlid comunity?
any ideas ?
thanks Hetfield

id go cichlids community --

either apistogramma,
or any of the west african dwarf species ---
kribs(and pelviachromis species..), thomas' cichlid, egyptian mouthbrooder, nanochromis sp.
also there are keyholes, flag sp(which are SA..).

itll give you more options for species, throw in a couple of ancistrus sp and a few larger dithers(congo, red eye tetras?)

where are u in the uk?

i'd definitley go for a cichlid community too. PERSONALLY i find discus too expensive, nervous and not too hardy.
craig

ps - a bradford lad exiled in lancashire here! :D

I have found Discus to be great fish... Some nick-named them 'King of Aquariums'. They do require excellent water conditions - and that's what most should be striving for no matter what fish you keep. The only times my Discus hide is when doing water changes. Seems like a normal reaction, not a nervous trait. :)

Discus! They are really more hardy than some think. As long as you do water changes they are hardy. They are not the fish for you if you put off water changes.

80gJoe, would you please stop showing off! Some of us have feelings!
anyways, I think discus wouldn't be a good fish for a tank that large, they might be scared..i guess... cuz there's so much room in there so they might look lost:confused: ..maybe like that. but then again..if you have 25 of them, like Joe here, they would prolly be fine, if you can afford the $25 bucks a pop on each fish.
