kelly, the hikari flakes will work just fine if you swish them in water before feeding, or just grab a pinch and swish it in the tank before releasing, so they don't float.
if you want to feed the hikari koi pellets you can use a coffee grinder to grind them up a little finer before feeding. just one or two pulses with a coffee grinder should work fine.
i agree with reptile about buying online - the selection is huge and you can get much better products (generally fresher, too).
