Please read the whole replies I post and not just pick through them for a couple points to argue against. I am absolutely not basing this on any claims the company makes. I gave it a shot because of that. I keep feeding it five years later because it it has proven to be so much better than other foods available.

Just what every fish food should have, artificial colors (that way the veggie food doesn't LOOK exactly like the carnivore food, even though the nutrition is the effectively the same). And ethoxyquin, how nutritious. Yes, it is in NLS too, but only in the meals as required by law. When I emailed Omega One about this they didn't reply, I wonder why...

You continue to ignore the question about whether you have even tried it. IMO people who haven't even tried something should at least specify that so that other people know exactly how much experience they are basing their opinions on. Good to know.

You can cling to overanalyzing the exact ingredient list if you feel that works, but let me know when mandarins start eating Omega One, or moorish idols thrive on it for years. Until then the results achieved with each speak for themselves.

It still doesnt tell you how much wheat flour. Even though Omega one has 6 other ingredients ahead of wheat flour it could still have more than NLS.

I did not see this as an argument, merely a difference of opinion. I prefer to use a blend of several flake foods in conjunction with algae wafers and the occasional frozen food. The proportional ingredient list along with the crude analysis gives us insight into the true value of foods. I don't consider being observant of these to be over analyzing.
In other forums, members swear by fish food brands (some I'd say were inferior) that they are loyal to, with similar claims of 'used for years' and 'simply the best'. All a matter of perspective I guess. I even read one fellow that was convinced that fish meal was better than whole fish because it has less water!! - lol

In parting, each to his own. Perhaps one day, out of the hundred plus fish foods, I will also have singular brand loyalty. However, today, I prefer using a blend of quality food brands that I have success with.

So because other people you have talked to have had some odd ideas about food anyone who disagrees with you about food is wrong?

Again, absolutely no experience with the food in question yet you know it better than those who have used it?

Again, try reading the whole reply. I am not saying it is the best because my fish are alive and 'colorful' on it. I feed it because it has done things that Omega One never has under any circumstance.

You don't have to try it for your own fish, that is your choice. But DO NOT tell other people it is no better than another food when you haven't even tried it.

Anyone reading this:
Sorry I wasted so much time with someone so new to the forum (possibly trolling). I didn't realize at first that this person had absolutely no experience with NLS or that would have ended things sooner.

Don't base your opinions on anything based on what someone with no experience theorizes. We can debate all day about theorized need for variety no matter what, theorized analysis of food ingredients, theorized results, etc. I have actual experience with this product. You can too, just give it a shot. Try feeding it exclusively for 3-4 months and see if it makes a difference for your fish. If it doesn't, tell us. I would still prefer a variety if I hadn't tried NLS exclusively, so I see why I others who haven't tried it feel that way Without seeing what it can do with your fish it really does look like just another over-hyped fish food in a sea of fish food options. But there is a reason people who try feeding it exclusively keep doing so.

So I am looking at using either a visitherm, elite, or finnex.

Does anyone know where these three brands are made? I figure any heater not made in china will give me good results.

I have fed the cichlid formula and the community formula before. I included it as part of a rotation of high quality dry food brands (Omega One, Hikari, Ocean Nutrition...Xtreme, later on down the line) along with fresh food (veggies, either lightly blanched or whole depending on what kind) and frozen food, such as bloodworms and Spirulina brine shrimp. NLS seemed like an excellent pellet food, I liked it a lot better than the Hikari pellets. I never tried their algae wafers, my LFS didn't sell them, but the Omega One algae wafers are by far my preference over Hikari, even though the fish seem to prefer the Hikari ones.

I can say this - the NLS pellets do seem to keep much longer. Even after 2 years in the freezer they seemed to still smell fishy, and the fish ate them just about like always. Even though fish seem to get more excited by flakes, pellets do seem to keep the water cleaner and hold their nutrition better. I imagine there is considerable difference between the shelf life of pellets and flake. Flake is somehow a lot more satisfying to watch the fish feed, but I know pellets are better for them...you just have to be more careful how you feed it.

I wish that NLS offered some smaller sizes, or trial sizes, but for whatever reason they don't. If Xtreme hadn't had such a great promotion (their Grab the Gold campaign which provided the LFS of your choosing free samples, with extras for other customers) I might never have tried them! If LFS offered a variety pack I would be all over that, I have a lot of different fish and don't want to spend a lot of money buying big jars of different formulas.

Most types of NLS come in small containers, many 75-80 grams and under $10. This is a great way to try it out with smaller fish for a few months.

You are right, pellets do keep their nutrition better. There are five main factors that reduce/remove nutrition: time, light, oxygen, water/moisture, and temperature. Pellets preserve most of these better than flakes can. I find it also fills the fish up better and is cleaner to feed.
