I'd be bored with the hobby if I didn't have to do maintenance. If I don't constantly have some kind of project on the go (and let's be honest, it's usually fish related) I tend to get a bit squirelly, so it's somehow soothing to me to know that there will always be work to do on the fishtanks.
I've recently upgraded the lighting & filtration and planted one of my tanks - the maintenance required to keep live plants healthy and keep their growth in check is a lot of work, but something I look forward to.
*chuckle* I should also add that I look forward to doing water changes because the fish nibble on my hand while I vacuum the substrate and it makes me laugh
