Who likes doing water changes???

I'd be bored with the hobby if I didn't have to do maintenance. If I don't constantly have some kind of project on the go (and let's be honest, it's usually fish related) I tend to get a bit squirelly, so it's somehow soothing to me to know that there will always be work to do on the fishtanks.
I've recently upgraded the lighting & filtration and planted one of my tanks - the maintenance required to keep live plants healthy and keep their growth in check is a lot of work, but something I look forward to.
*chuckle* I should also add that I look forward to doing water changes because the fish nibble on my hand while I vacuum the substrate and it makes me laugh :D

AFG - Can you say "Meridian Automatic Water Changer"? A bit of work to set up the plumbing for prefiltration, but it works.

Doing routine partials is to me not at all the same as doing "specials" such as resets, major filtration re-works,etc. - I always have to have some experiment(s) going, or I am in danger of burn-out.

ok, i'll bite.

i don't like doing water changes. i don't like pulling out that python hose from under the kitchen sink. i don't like running it across the room and spending the required 15mins when i can be instead watching silly south park episodes on tv. i don't like having to dry up the hose, winding it up again--making sure it doesn't get kink, and stuffing it back under the kitchen sink without hitting my head under the cabinet. but then...

...it's a good feeling at the end. like you have actually accomplished something for the day, especially after an uneventful work schedule. seeing the new faucet bubbles clinging on the glass, it's all good.

I'm with nvision, I don't like doing them either. But, I do enjoy the satifaction at the end of it all, and I enjoy watching my fish swim around... and I especially enjoy the money saved on medications because I'm not changing the water.

I enjoy feeding more than water changes ;).

Water changes and tank maintenance are chores that I don't mind doing. But at the same time, once I get past that "I'd rather just lay around" feeling, I do find it somewhat therapeutic, but then, I've only got 2 tanks on the go, and only one of them 'high maintenace'. I think that it would get old fast if I had a number of high maintenance tanks.

That said, after Sunday's effort, I may have finally found an aquascape that almost looks just right, it's been a lot of trial and error, and I'm still trying to get the front just right, but in time...

So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not nuts about the process, but I love the end result and it would not be anywhere near as satisfying if someone else had done it.

i like using the gravel vac but i dont like carying around buckets of water.

I know exactly what you mean... there's just something cool about a gravel vac. I'm glad someone else said it first. LOL

Since I got a Python, I like doing water changes. The Python makes it fun.

That, and the added benefit of knowing that I am doing something that improves the quality of life for the fish that live with me. They give me hour after hour of relaxation and enjoyment, and they beautify my living space. It makes me feel good to do something in return.
