Who wants anything cheaper from petsmart then the regular price.

I spoke with the manager at my local Petsmart and he said that they do not match internet prices. I tried this last year when everyone spoke about this and they did not do it then either. I tried another Petsmart in another part of Houston and they said the same thing. They did not even match the Petsmart internet price.

I never did this before but isnt there a sign somewhere where they price match?

There are signs about the price match all over the store. Most people think that its only for other stores and do not realize that its also for petsmart.com.

Some managers worry about not meeting their weekly/monthy whatever-its-called (I can't remember lol) so they don't price match petsmart.com even though they should. They will not, however, match the price of any other online stores such as Dr. Foster and Smith or Big Al's. I know some of you have gotten lucky and have gotten Petsmart to match DFS or BA, but I know that the Petsmart that I work at won't do it and double-checks that it is in fact from petsmart.com. They don't mind doing the price match at my store though, all the employees do it too, especially the fishy people :p: .

I just got a Rena xP2, which is $149.99 in store, for $79.99 but doing the price match

if everyone starts doing this, then you know what is going to happen, the prices on the shelves are going to go up.

Whos cares as long as they still price match.

Actually if everyone did it they would simply go out of business just like so many other lfs's as well as others have. There is simply no way they could sell everything everyday at online prices or they would be gone real fast. Think about it.... internet business's have very low expenses vrs brick and morter stores. They can work out of a basement or building that is a fraction the cost of a retail store and they also need only a fraction of the workers and NO displays etc. I just don't understand when some seem to think the stores are ripping people off when there is such a huge difference in the cost of doing business between the two. I'm not saying I wouldn't do it or buy online because I sometimes do but I do try to support my local stores as much as I can because I want them to be there when I need them. Just something to consider.

I agree with your first statement about the price situation that it costs more to work from a huge store than it does from a simple warehouse. But most chains started out as one store and nowadays mailorder. As far as the prices go, my website prices would match my store prices, or people like most of us would and will take advantage of something as simple as this. Ill be honest with you, when a python 50ft kit is selling in their store for $70 and i walk in with a print off for $23, thats not the price of shipping. And for those of you who mentioned that it was, i dont see them charging me $46 in shipping and handling fees to mail me something that weighs around 5lbs. I bought a HOT Magnum and a Python 50ft kit for $70, it would've been well over $150 without the printoffs. But im not calling it an accident either. But honestly I've seen people walk in petsmart and purchase very expensive stuff without any form of discount and ill stand there dumbfounded, since ill allow them to pick up the profit for me. But for a company like Petsmart I doubt Ill put a hole in their pocket anytime soon. Thats how they became a large pet chain in the first place remember;) :dance2:

Hey DallasP,
Good points and I agree with most of what you are saying. I can't afford to pay that much difference either. My local guy wanted $400 for the Eheim filter I recently got. I got it from DrFosterSmith for $250. That kind of difference is out of line. I just meant that if brick and morter businesses were forced to match internet prices on everything they just wouldn't be there.

By the way, thank god there are people that just walk in and don't bother to research and priceshop because they are carrying the load for that bigtime rent! :thm:

I know what you guys mean. I'm going to save money when I can. I'm not in the least worried of putting petsmart out of business. The companyu is making profit even at online prices

I just wanted to add that the mark up is not just "shipping" via UPS etc, it is shipping, all the cost of the building they are in, employees, electricity, cash registers and all the other things needed for a building.
But I'd think they would at least be smart enough to have the same prices online as in the store. That way people are more likely to go into a store to save shipping charges and probably pretty often buy something else then they planned.
This whole thing is just weird to me from a business standpoint.
*Shrug* whatever saves us money works for me though.

I called the manager and he said yes, they did match internet prices and all I have to do is bring the print out..He did not seem mad or anything like that..

hey guys,

i'm new here and just skimming through the forums for starters, but this thread got me pretty excited.

since most poeple in this thread have no problems getting the price match but a few do i was wondering if y'all could post what state it did or did not work in - unless that would fill the thread with too many unnecessary posts.

i will defenitly call my nearest petsmart tomorrow, but this really got my interest right now.

thanks for the awsome tip!! :bowing:

Bianca, welcome to Aquaria Central!

I think it has to do with which particular manager is on duty. It appears that they are supposed to restrict price matching from online stores to only their own Petsmart.com. Others are unaware of this policy and will give you a price match from another online place. I hope I get the latter :D So it appears you can go to the same store, at different times and get different answers.
