Your target pH should be 6.5.
When you first set the bubble rate check every few hours. Or after a gas tank refill.
You can easily stop any DIY CO2 source or any CO2 source for that matter by using the suction side of powerhead to pump your CO2 into a reactor or just hav it disperse without a reactor to catch any bubbles. When the pump is on, the CO2 dissolves, when it's off, the bubbles escape out the top of the tank.
Simply plug the pump into the same timer as the lighting. You can ever use a CO2 controller with DIY etc if you wanted to.
There are two other ways but this is the easiest and most practicle.
