Hey all, i have a 29g planted, for days not ive seen a sudden loss of the bottom leaves of all my plants. Its like someone is eating them and working their way up. There are no snails. I have gouramis, mollies, albino bristlenose pleco, and a little siamese algea eater. Not a flying fox. I have no idea whos eating the plants.

Could be the pleco if it is not getting enough veggys in its diet.

BN are plant safe, but it may just be VERY hungry.

Gouramis are piggys - depending on what plants you have - they will pick at them. I have tried purple waffle plants in my community tank several times (which has Rainbows and Gouramis), and the purple plants always get attacked by the gold gouramis.

I think it is a combination, the plants are running out of nutrients and dropping the lower leaves and the fish are cleaning those dieing leaves up.

Are you dosing the tank with anything? How much light are you running?

My pleco was devouring my live plants. I started putting a leaf of lettuce daily in the tank and the pleco and snail leave the live plants alone.

The plecos are really fat they get veggies and wafers and a varied diet. But i think i found out whats going on. Today the ligh strip stopped working, this light strip was given to my husband a while ago and he ws told that it was "great" for plants. (he doesnt know about plants, he just tried it for like a week) so i believed him that it was a great light strip. Today since the light went out i look to see what bulb it has to replace it...it has a 6,500l 45watt coralife bulb. I dont think thats enough light for a 29g considering that my 10g planted alone has 10,000k 50watts. Could it be the plants are dying and the fish are eating the rotted plant matter not the plant itslef? and thats why i see it slowly disapearing from the bottom up?

The problem there wasn't the plants, it's that "purple waffle" isn't an aquatic plant. It's probably one of the most common false aquatic plants sold at the Big Box. Cool looking plant, but does nothing but rot.
