There was a "what funny things does your fish do" thread in the Cichlid section. Since I don't have Cichlids, I didn't post there.

After having the community tank of Harlequin Rasboras, White Clouds and Gold Barbs for a couple of months, my wife noticed that they followed her when she came to the tank. She said, "Watch this!", and she walked from one end of the tank to the other, and the whole group would follow her. In my head, I hear their voices - they sound like the alien toys in the gumball machine from Toy Story. "The human is over HEEEEERE!" I had heard that Cichlids are known for their intelligence and will recognize people, but it kind of surprised me that the community fish do that.

I also noticed that they all like to congregrate in the front corner of the aquarium in the upper half. I wondered if they were afraid of the bubble stone I had placed in the corner, but I'd see a few swimming over there from time to time with no problem. But in general, the group likes the upper half of the one corner.

Well, one morning I get and turn on the light, and they're pretty evenly distributed throughout the tank. They're already pretty active, so I don't think that was their "sleeping" positions. Then I realized that the TV was not on, and the corner they like to stay in is the one closest to the TV, and you have to be in the upper half to see over the couch into the living room. So I'm theorizing that they are attracted to the glow and apparent motion of the TV. Either that, or it's because my wife and I are over in the living room, and they are trying to be near.

Anybody else's community fish watch TV, or have other odd behavior?

When my angel fish is hungry she tries to swim to me through the glass. It breaks my heart to not feed her (trying to cut down on amonia). Also, every time I open the lid of my hood, it makes a squeek. She's grown to recognize this squeek as feeding time, even when I open it to change the water or replace a plant.

my angel does the exact same thing. unfortunately my plec doesn't take the same liking to squeaks and bumps and people walking in front of the tank as my angelfish.
my angel also likes to watch other fish. he(or she?) will just swim around looking at them and following them around. :dive2:

My female swordtail looks like it tries swimming through the glass to me. It constantly wants food. It eats like half of the food when its feeding time and the other half is saved for the rest of the fish.

My biggest pleco bumps the lid of the tank to beg for koi bits. He likes taking them from my fingers more than finding them on his own now. He'll also hang out at the end of the tank that I'm at, just sucking the sand and watching me. When I turn to face him, he'll give me a long slow blink "I see you" then go herd the other gibby's into the same corner. I had 38 linear inches of fish staring at me last night while I tried to watch a movie... Either that, or my plecs are a fan of "dawn of the living dead".

Clown loaches.

In fact - I don't think I need to say any more than that given their characters!!

My danios are like pirahna trying to kill each other whenever I drop flakes in they go SO fast my eyes cant see them enough...

My Silver Dollar is the most loyal, he has grown accustomed to feeding time all the time but he has this mellow cool about him. He doesnt beg but when he sees me coming he does come front and center sometimes coming all the way to the top to grab onto the shrimp pellets. He has grown to love the sinking shrimp pellets and will eat them whether i drop them in for him or not, he will go down and pick each and every one out of the gravel bed leaving nothing for my catfish. The catfish get the larger algae wafers now.

The tetras all may be going hungry sad to say... the danios devour everything that come into the tank that fits in their mouths. Even when their stomaches look like they are going to explode the danios are still eating! How do I resolve this besides moving these hungry danios to another tank?

All my fish love the live brine shrimp with passion as well.

I like to sit on the end of my 125g and look down the tank from the end, it's an interesting perspective to watch the fish from. Anyway, I have one angelfish who, as soon as she sees me sit down in the chair, she swims over and parks herself in front of me... She only wants me to watch HER because she's just so beautiful, you know! ;) She will hover right there and watch me the whole time. I'd give anything to know what she's thinking!!
