Why do we love fish (in tank)?

I started 5 months ago with a 5G for my daughter. Then I was the one
became totally hooked. I went from 5G to 20G to 36G to now 55G
in 5 months ( I should have gotten 75G instead of the 55G). My wife
initially thought I was mentally disturbed. She has basically 0.00 interest in
fish tank. She thinks I was trying to avoid her by staring at the tank
hours after hours. Later she started to realize that actually many
people are like me (or mentally disturbed.)

At the begining I was just interested in the fishes themselves. After seeing
some pics of planted tanks, especially the AGA aquascaping contest,
I then became out of control.

Can someone suggest me a way to calm down a bit? Or can you
tell me why do you love fishes in a tank?

Good Luck Calming down....if you are like most of us you suffer from MTS and until you reach a point where you decide you cant take care of "X" number of tanks then you start downsizing to a more manageable amount...but so far for me its about 6 tanks....and its only 6 bc i'm out of room....another deciding factor for me is when you start getting low on cash flow...thats another damper in the aquatic hobby. Good Luck and maybe she'll come around some time.

I know what you mean i have the same problem wife hopes all petshops close down.

It's a hobby , and everyone needs hobbies. Your wife should be glad yours is one that allows you to be in the house most of the time , rather than out on a golf course or something somewhere....

You are, indeed, mentally disturbed, as we all are.....watching fish is relaxing and hypnotic, like watching the fire in a fireplace. And you are excited about your new disease...er...hobby, and that's why you want to get more tanks and learn more. It's ok....it is incurable but it's ok....I write this as I prepare to complete the final phase of tank stand construction that will take me from 13 to 32 tanks. Hey, it could be worse.....well, I can't think of just how it could be worse right now...just shut up and buy another tank...it will sooth you!

heh, i agree im hooked... it all started with a 20g for me and went down hill from there... well i wouldnt say downhill maybe uphill 8)

once you get a couple too many tanks and actually start to dread the maintenance involved it'll calm down.... then just downsize the number of tanks... your wife & wallet will thank you.

Totally!!

See my sig, thats only after 8 months.:duh:

Awful isn't it?

I have a tiny house, so I thought a 29 gallon was the biggest I could get. Until the used 75 showed up in the newspaper. I found room for it instead of the 29. Now I find myself wondering where I could put a 40 with a fancy goldfish or two? Or perhaps a nano with a school of neons &/or galaxy raspboras....

Perhaps if I built an addition....

In the meantime I tell myself, if I had more tanks to watch, I could only ever watch one at a time, and I'd be missing out on what happens in the others. So far that is working.

maybe a pond...

I'm still stocking a fairly new tank, soon I'll have to switch from buying fish mentality to getting to know the ones I have.
