I was at the LFS today and while watching people gravitate towards certain fishes had this question pop in mind: why do people like particular types of fish? So i'm going to post this question about specific types in multiple posts.

So why do you like goldfish?

Hi,

Although I had been known for my previous gravitation towards loaches and snails (I still am, just cannot focus my usual advisory tendencies on more than one subject these days), goldfish was one of the first fish I ever kept together with bettas, livebearers and cichlids. It took me quite a long time before I eventually returned to them because firstly, my inexperience back when I was new to fish with goldfish had been disastrous and I did not feel at that point encouraged to keep them again until recently.

I have to thank my fellow mods, Kashta and Iris for their wonderful storytelling that it prompted me to return in full force this time.

I am in more ways than one quite happy to be where I am.

1. Despite popular beliefs, goldfish present quite a challenge, much more than what I anticipated upon my return but I do not mind the challenges I face. It gives you plenty of learning experiences.

2. They're quite personable contrary to popular beliefs wherein people tell you, "goldfish lack personality" and all that bunk.

3. Cuteness factor. I can't deny goldfish look very cute especially when you become extremely attached to them.

Ya, i have to admit that Goldfish get bagged down as the "generic" fish by many people. But when I look at healthy Fancy GF I notice how beautiful they can be. The cute factor can't be denied. =)

I remember being surprised when hearing about their personalities!

I love goldfish because they are cute and have very defined personalities. Plus they dont need the world best aquarium to be happy they just need a pond and some friends lol. i have some common goldies and they recognize me when i walk past the tank. :P

Goldies are and always will be my favorite fish. They are, as one website suggests, "aquapuppies." They are intelligent, curious and friendly fish. Lupin is correct, however, that they are a bit more of a challenge than one would expect. Corys come a close second, but goldies have first place.

every day with them is another adventure they are so smart and cunning on how to get your attention so the get a treat,..lol quite funny lil buggers,.. never a dull moment,..

I love goldfish because they are very personable and smart. When people see happy healthy goldies they are amazed.
close behind would be cory's and betta's...
