Why do you love goldfish?

because of their personality!
just love them and they are so beautiful when they are not kept in little bowls or tanks. And I love their vivid colors, different markings, their activeness...
i have a large goldie tank at home that is heavily planted and every time we have visitors people are amazed how beautiful the gioldies are - I have commons. :)

I started keeping goldies as a child because of those fairytales we listened to when we were kids you know...goldfish will always grant you up to three wishes ;)
Once we had them we of course found out they needed a biger tank and we couldn't afford it so they went to a friends pond...

Now I am back to keeping goldfish, they are really so personable and friendly, you just have to love em :) and they all have names and each has its own personality..

it just makes me so sad when people think they are not proper fish, they are feeders and so on...i think they must be the worlds most misunderstood fish :(

I started with them because my daughter won one at the local fair. It was about 90 degrees out and the carny pulled out her 'prize' from a plastic garbage can. When he opened the lid I was shocked to see it plumb full of little baggies containing goldfish. I am the Mom so I got to carry the fish all over the fair and in so doing I noticed so many bags of goldfish with kids carrying them about and slapping them around. We took the little guy home and set up a 5g tank for him. He was acting very un-goldfish-like so we bought him a friend and of course--a larger tank. The next years fair my daughter went on a bee-line to the goldfish game to rescue another fish--it died before we got home. And she did the same the next year. I also bought a comet as a feeder for my crayfish but he managed to survive--gotta find a pond for it this year. I was fighting cancer around the time of the first two goldfish and found looking at goldfish was very relaxing and good for my brain and attitude. So now we have goldfish! I love the way they swim and play and interact with each other and with me--they are pretty smart fish. :dance2:

:spam: point below:
BTW: those bubble eyed goldfish freak me out though :uhoh:  I can't ever foresee keeping those goldfish.....not really spam but I've always wanted to use that icon :naughty:

I think the kinds we keep (ryukin, oranda, fantail, and black moor) are adorable to look at, move cute, and have sweet personalities. The goldfish and the blood parrot fish are the only fish I really get personally attached to... I enjoy them all, but these ones really approach "pet status" for me :)

i like the ones with big eyes, wens or double tails. they have a funny way of wiggling while they swim and they seem nice. i had several 'feeders' that didn't get eaten at one point and they used to dance at me(or so it seemed) when i walked by like synchronized swimmers. i just got back into goldfish this time i got some fancies. they are pretty cute.

i love my goldfish because they are so interactive, and you can get so many different colours and shapes too. the tank is always busy and always interesting to look at.

i love commons, and i love orandas with smaller wens, im not keen on comets(i like the rounded tails moreso) and i really dont like bubble eye types or ones with no dorsal fin. ive never really liked moors until i found the 7 inch chocolate moor i have now, she was just so pretty, with a beautiful big lobed tail and smallish eyes for a moor.

i think the best thing about having a huge tank with goldfish is how many people comment on them, and ask what species they are as they didnt think goldfish grew that big :goldfish: especially with fancy goldfish.

the worst thing, for me at least, has got the be the destruction of any living plant added :irked: thats some expensive salad!

Love my goldfish!
I have comets and shubs out in the pond who are familiar enough with me that they come zipping out to see me when I get home from work. Each has/had it's own personality...some will come right up into my hand when I feed them, one in particular is very shy and stays well back until I move away. Some are pigs and bossy, some followers, some strike out on their own. There is nothing to lower your blood pressure and put you in a good mood like watching them slide thru the water, never clumsy or awkward, just cruising along, no worries.

That being said, there is also nothing more heartbreaking than losing a goldfish (or any fish :( ) especially one that has become a member of the family and has as much 'fridge space as the kids' drawings.

Goldfish were the first fish that my parents kept that I could actually remember very well. (They had a tropical tank before that and I don't remember a thing about it!). I got to pick my own fish, aside from the common pleco that I had claimed as mine. They were always fun to watch. When I started fish keeping again my freshmen year of high school, my first choice was goldfish because that's what I remembered and loved. They have an awesome personality, they recognize you, and they are beautiful fish. After those fish died (Filter failed) I had stopped keeping fish for a few years. I then restarted my fish hobby again a year ago and this time I did everything right, even though I started with 5 goldies in a 10g. They were very nice, smart goldfish. They have always had a place in my heart and they bring back a lot of memories for me. (One particular memory of me and my mom putting my 10g stand with a filled tank on towels to move it across the room when we were painting!)
