Why do you think fish like to be around the thermometer?

i have a digital thermometer that i prob different spots in the tank looking for cold spots.

the other thing i think of is something different around there. move the heater and see if they switch to the new place. maybe more the filter.

Unless every single fish is hanging out there constantly, I don't think you have a problem.
