why is my water cloudy? *pics*

i use 2 wisper hob 10-15

i change the pouch once every 3 months or so whenever needed realy and they needed it this time so i changed them

maintain.

i vacume/water change every other week about 35% of the water

theres a festivum 2 keyholes and a cae in there

the nitrites will rise during a mini cycle. yes it can kill your fish

if the nitrates are almost never 0 and they constantly have, it could be that something has harmed the bacteria that eat up nitrites and turn it into nitrates

you should be changing the water (along with vacuuming the gravel) every week.

with the CAE, your tank sounds a bit overstocked. they are big waste producers, get to over a foot long, and dont eat algea. plus, they are pretty aggressive and will eat your fish.

filters i have 2 ... are they still undersized?

so how should i do that? keeping my nitrites low. do i change water every week ... how much? and how long before i can stop woriing about this

like the others have said, if you are not changing your water every week, you create a buildup of wastes in the tank.

bacteria love this and their populations rise.

hence, giving you a bacterial bloom in your tank creating the cloudiness.

excess feeding does the same thing.

if you give bacteria lots of food (fish waste and uneaten food) and oxgygen, they grow very well...creating the milkiness that you see.

1/3d is usually the minimum amount to change each week, you can do a little more if the tank is well stocked or you have big fish.

for the fish that you have (ie not huge ones) 1/3d each week should be fine.

you should feed every other day for the next week or so as well..
