why won't my albino african cichlids eat my minos?

How about acually feeding them fish food? sorry I think feeding fish live foods is mean. I may be the onyl one who thinks this, but if your fish are small, why not feed them fish food ?

You do know that fish food is made of fish, right?

The feeders should fit in their mouths. They won't generally go after larger minnows as food, more for a territory thing.

I agree with the guppy idea, or convict fry make a nice snack.

jtburf,

In regards the photo you posted, your "johanni" is actually an auratus.

Are you planning to add a frontosa to that mbuna tank?

Ummm...not all "fish food" is made out of fish. Brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc..?

But I do agree that feeding live fish to a mbuna/peacock isn't a good diet for them to thrive on. They need a veggie based diet and feeders are basically fat and protein...which too much of either will lead to problems...

Yes, your Johanni is actually an Auratus. Plus Fronts shouldnt be with Malawis and are too big for a 55.

As for the feeders, most africans should not be fed live fish.

**** PEOPLE AFRICAN CICHLIDS ARE VEGETARIANS... this should be common knowledge if you have done any research at all.

and not all fish food is made from fish... cichlids should be eating food that is designed for them.. which is high in spirulina and other veggies, and low in protien

I think that has already been said. But don't get mad at the op, they were told wrong info like many of us have been in the past...

Not all African cichlids are vegetarians. I have a tank with Tanganyikan cichlids and some such as my Calvus, Sexfasciatus are carnivores and need meeting items such as shrimp, worms and yes the occasional feeder fish as a treat. In the wild they surely eat smaller fish.
