The feeders should fit in their mouths. They won't generally go after larger minnows as food, more for a territory thing.

Ummm...not all "fish food" is made out of fish. Brine shrimp, bloodworms, etc..?
But I do agree that feeding live fish to a mbuna/peacock isn't a good diet for them to thrive on. They need a veggie based diet and feeders are basically fat and protein...which too much of either will lead to problems...

Not all African cichlids are vegetarians. I have a tank with Tanganyikan cichlids and some such as my Calvus, Sexfasciatus are carnivores and need meeting items such as shrimp, worms and yes the occasional feeder fish as a treat. In the wild they surely eat smaller fish.
