where i live we have red clawed mud crays, i catch them all the time and feed them to my cichlids, i caught one who was carrying young and i have been raising them. but for the most part they do extremely well in my tanks.
You don't happen to know the scientific name of that crayfish do you? I looked up "red clawed mud crayfish" and came back with several different links to crays that look nowhere near as spectacular as yours.
Where is "local" for you? I'd love to know more about that cray- looks fascinating.
not sure on the scientific name and i cant remember where i heard red claw from i just use it a lot, i live in visalia california, the lake that i pull them out of is called kaweah lake, i also find hundreds of them in a little and i mean little river that goes throw town. i will ask a buddy of mine who is a marine biologist and owns the one lfs we have. thinks for the comments though.
did some quick research and found some info, i believe my guy are called red clawed swamp crays and the scientific name is (promcamarus clarkii). hope this helps. if you guys check the laws on shiping these guy to your area i may be able to send a couple.
