will my plants die?

Not every has or wants credit cards. It's sometimes hard to believe, but circumstances in life sometimes conflict with what we want to accomplish.

I'd be concerned about the way you budget your money, especially with kids, and a fish hobby. I agree that having pocket money is very important, especially if you do not own a credit card.

With that said, I'd try to get a timer if possible, to save yourself from seeing dead plants when you return. The cyypts will most likely not make it, but they MIGHT regrow once they get a steady source of light again.

I don't see a problem leaving the lights off for a week. Most of us buying plants get them in 2-4 days... but packages like that get delayed all the time, too. Plants are still fine being in a dark box all that time. When they do arrive in poor shape, it's usually because of extreme temperatures.

The rest of your plants will be fine. The crypts might lose some leaves, but if the roots are healthy.. they'll grow back. No lasting harm done.

you guys....:swear:

you have an aquarium and you cant afford a timer? dont you have at least 1 credit card? I dont mean to sound like a jerk but that is just odd to me

why is it odd? i have bad credit from credit cards i had in highschool/college that i just payed off. still paying for student loans too so that gets in the way.

i'm doing pretty good considering i'm on maternity leave and all my bills/rent are paid. my kids have everything they need and my cupboards and fridge are full. i just had to spend over $300 on bus tickets i wasn't planning on getting cause of family problems i have to go deal with or i'd still have that cash. crap happens sometimes and it sucks but i just deal with it.

ive done blackouts on my ten gal for five days. the plants were stretched out but fine other wise.

okay, thanks guys. sorry if i got a bit cranky, i just wasn't expecting those responses. i'm going to phone my mom tonight and ask her for a few bucks so i can get one. if she says no, then i'm still going to get one when next week cause his check will be here monday and i've been thinking of getting one anyways. if i could put it off till then i would but we gotta go. i appreciate the offer bocomo, but we are leaving on tomorrow night and i don't really like taking things from people i don't know. it's very sweet of you to offer though. it's not really a vacation, but i suppose i could probably squeeze in some relaxing time...lol. i'll probably be coming home a couple days early if i can't borrow a few bucks. (: thanks all
