A few days ago, I rescued a rainbowfish with 2 bad scrapes on it. I've been treating it with melafix and salt for a few days now and he's looking quite a bit better. Will his scales regenerate over the scraped areas ? Yesterday, a couple small spots of fuzz appeared on the larger scrape. Should I let melafix do its job or do I need to do some anti fungal treatment as well ?

My rainbow's gashes seem to have healed pretty well. Those 3 spots are just flesh colored and smooth now. Does anyone know if new scales will ever come back to those spots. The scrapes were pretty red & relatively deep when I got it.

I believe fish scales will grow back(they have when my fish lose them) however, I think I should qualitfy this a bit..it may also depend on the extent of damage.
also I found that just keeping the water really clean with frequent water changes was all the fish needed to 'regrow' it's scales.

the scales may appear different in shape and size.
