will this work? oscar and iridescent shark?

Sorry you feel that way but you asked if it could work. We said no. That is not complaining.

We explained why we answered the way we did. Ultimately you can do what you want.

If you think we are whining then this website is not for you. As Ex said, its your fish and your aquarium. But keep in mind you asked the question and we answered truthfully. We are here to promote excellent fishkeeping practices and I think every response so far has been within reason and tried to help. I'm sorry you disagree...

Yes, and i agreed and followed the advice happily :)
it wasnt until i was told to bring him back, which is rediculous, thats when things were going too far and off topic, which was not necessary, and pointless.
not to mention i'd have to tear up my heavily planted tank to catch him, stress my existing fish, stress the ID shark, and for what? for him to be bought by someone else or to probably die from all the stress he just endured? to make people on a forum happy?

As a precaution, ALWAYS do the research before buying the fish. I know impulse buys happen and some LFS employees are misinformed themselves, but knowing the full requirements of this fish would have saved a lot of hassle. Yes, its done and over with, but just a suggestion for the future.

Guess you missed the part when i said i allready had one back in the 1980's ;)
most websites say they dont reach their potential size in captivity, mine too only reached 12", i also know that they go veggie at around 6", which is when mine did taking mouthfulls of hair algae, zuccinni, romaine etc, i didnt get that from reading since in the 80's we had no internet, it was from experience.
So when the lady was bagging him the first thing that was going through my mind, is i gotta get a bigger tank, so i knew what i was doing, just had a crazy thought about an oscar with him..which i am not going to do.

I don't know much about fishkeep in the 80's as well, I wasn't around...but a healthy Pangasius h. shouldn't top out at 12". Even in aquariums they should get closer to 30". I think one part of responsible fishkeeping is to plan for the adult size of the fish. I'm glad you realized that though.

Its easy to say this now but I'm if we knew that you were able to build a large pond for the shark, the responses would have differed. In most cases people plan for a much smaller tank and cannot provoid the adequate housing when recommended. Its a bad habit to get frustrated when these types of situations occur, but I think we all try to take a step back and educate rather than talk down to any member.

I see this fish as an excuse to go bigger lol
always looking for an excuse right? ive been dreaming of an indoor pond since i was 13! and i think an ID shark might look cute veiwed from above :p:
We gotta see how he goes, i will try my best to accomodate him, and keep him safe from other fishes.
and who knows if the little guy will make it..not to be negative, but my tank is uncovered because of the lighting, and i just had my sailfin pleco jump out the other night :(
so whos to say what will happen..heck i can croak before him..then what lol
