Windows Vista

eh, the bottom line is, Never buy anything with a low serial number. I'll give users another year or two to betta test vista for me.. That way, when I get a new computer, I'll only have to download a half a gig of established patches to make it preform the way it's supposed to.

that's the way i do it!

Vista's terrible - old mobo went so decided to upgrade everything in May, including OS...all compatible components and yet it won't cleanly install! Registry's gone corrupt, the UAC went corrupt, and on and on. Still haven't been able to install all the updates.

Considering getting a legit copy of XP, since this has installed previously (might dual boot and mess around with vista on other HDD).

Really, really hate Vista. Almost considering pursuing statutory rights (UK law)!

Don't blame Vista for the fact that hardware companies can't get things right. First off Vista should have a min of 1 gig of ram. Microsoft says that yet you can buy low end Acers and HP's with 512 MB of ram. Not Microsoft or Vistas fault there. Yes, it will run and slowly. Would XP run faster? Yes, because it is an old system designed for older equipment. If I take Windows XP off my current system and install Windows 98SE it runs insanely fast. So is Win 98SE better?

Never upgrade the operating system on a computer that is more than a year old regardless. Vista is far too new to do that. You need to get a new system purpose built.

As for those with issues, well heck even Macs come with issues amnd need to be fixed. Buy a Win XP system from Dell (you still can) and there will be a chance of ffailure. These are electronic devices. They are never perfect.

So why do we see less cars crash than computers? They have ECU's controlling them. Or is it that car manufacturers utilise better software companies?

Would you buy a car made by Microsoft? Bill Gate's is developing an OS for domestic robots - would you feel safe giving that robot a kitchen knife?

Agreed that the hardware companies communication with M/soft is poor though. Look at Nvidia drivers...

Clearly a blind statement. Car manufactures spend an incredible amount of time tuning electronics on cars - The main difference is that there is no end user screwing up his ECU. It's all firmware and cannot be modified, only overwritten with special equipment. Otherwise you would have a ton of PEBSWAS errors (Problem Exists Between Steering Wheel And Seat).

Amen to that. How many companies that produce hardware and software (Sound cards, keyboards, mice, video games, etc) don't have 64 bit support yet? How long have 64 bit CPU's been out? 3 or 4 years? Yes I can see that's all Microsoft's fault...

Operating systems and hardware seems to be ahead of everything in between.

because cars don't need updates.. they don't connect to the internet.. they don't get 'games' installed.. and last but certainly not least, the user has ABSOLUTELY no way to access the information on the ECU without expensive cables and programs. :) therefore, there is no crashing of a car's computer due to ignorance. (that is NOT to say that all computer crashes are due to ignorance, but to say that it is HIGHLY unlikely with a car where you do not access the CU with an HMI.)

And truth be told, lots of cars have computer issues. Normally there are tolerances built in to accomidate them. But car computers can foul up as well.

I have absolutely had it!

I can't take this anymore. Here are problems that are turning my hair grey. If anyone knows how to fix these problems please let me know...

1) System Restore doesn't work. It goes through all the processes and restarts the system but then has an error saying that there was an error and the system wasn't restored. I've tried it at least seven times now with all different restore points and it never ever works, nor does it say why.

2) I can't save or format a RW-CD. When I try to save, nothing happens. When I try to format, it thinks for 15 minutes then says "Windows cannot format this disk." I've tried many different RW-CD disks and brands, and still...

3) When I burn a CD, it takes ten minutes to eject! I had to put a 35KB Word document (my resume) on disk today and between trying to get it to save onto a RW-CD, which didn't work, and then trying to burn it to a normal CD and waiting for it to eject, it took me a good 45 minutes.

4) When I copy and paste text from the web into to Word, it usually crashes. And my super-fast computer took five minutes to paste a three-word sentence earlier today. Why oh why?

5) I can't do anything without it asking me to Confirm or Accept, like in those Mac commercials! Sometimes it asks me twice for the same thing. If I say "accept" the first time then just do it. Geesh.

6) Control-Alt-Delete sometimes doesn't work, and if it does, it usually takes two minutes for the Task Manager to finally make an appearance. So when the computer freezes, forget it, the TM isn't going to come around anytime soon either.

7) I can't type a URL into the address bar of IE because it will just do a Google search. I have to either visit a web page via Google or from my Favourites now. Nope, can't type in AquariaCental.com and just come here. That would be too easy! Oh yeah, and IE always crashes.

8) Firefox Mozilla has seizures on Vista. The screen jumps up and down, up and down, really fast. I've reinstalled it and it still does it. Opera crashes every five minutes, which isn't nearly as frequent as IE, but it's enough I can't even use it.

I'm at my wits end here. Why can't it just work?

Vista is an engineering failure especially when they spend 5 years developing it! I went back to XP. A Mac OS10 will be my next computer I am tired of Microsoft's monopoly, high prices and crappy products.

How on earth can you sit there and say its an "engineering failure"??

At the the very least, backup your statement that Vista is a failure..come on..

Omega....after 10 years in the IT industry, i would personally say that Vista is not your main cause of the issues you have encountered...I would be looking more towards the hardware side of things if it was me..

I was part of the private Beta Team for Microsoft on the development of Windows Vista, and even in the very first beta that was rolled out, i never experienced the issues that your experiencing....

I am not gonna sit here and defend Vista 100%, yes, it has issues, but..so did Win98, WinME ( Windows Multiple Errors ), Windows 2000 and XP...It is not Microsofts fault for 95% of errors, its the fault of the hardware manufactuers who did not write correct drivers to make their HW capable of running Vista...People are very quick to jump on MS for a newly released operating system, when people whould be looking else where when an issue is encountered...

Personaly, i am running Vista Ultimate on quite old HW, and i dot get a ANY issues what so ever...

I really hope you get to the bottom of your issues Omega, not a good experience for you by all accounts...
