Hello,
Scratching my head over this recent problem. Rest of the tank looks good, water clear and no algae on the glass. N=35, P=4, and I dose CSM Trace solution as directed. Co2 is turned up as high as the fish can tolerate. 8 hr photoperiod w/55 watts over 29 gals.
Older leaves are most affected, so I suspect a mobile nutrient deficiency. Will begin MgS04 dosing after weekly 50% water change.
One other observation: the wisteria folds up only 5 hrs into the 8 hr photoperiod. All comments appreciated. Thanks.

I just cleaned off and replanted the tops, so for the time being everything is green, no black at all. GH and KH = 4, pH = 6.6 before co2, and NO3 = 35.

I know this is an oldish post but 35ppm nitrate seems high to me even with co2...& pH 6.6 before the co2? Seems like it would go way low but I don't have co2...

How's it doing for you now?

Sorry to be so latd in responding.. Still having problems. New plan is to double up on traces and also add Excel dosing to my pressurized co2. May or may not work, but if I don't change anything the result will stay the same.
Added root tabs a few weeks ago, but so far all that seems to have done is made things worse. Will give the tabs another week. Also thinking about going to a higher quality needle valve for the co2 just to try something else new.

Is it like black beard? Or dying stems, I'm not sure I get it. I've never done co2 so I'm pretty useless but I would like to know...Good luck!

Yes, although on the wisteria it is simply pieces. Should mention that things are looking much better since doubling traces and adding Excel. Will see if the improvement holds.
