Woot! got me some Peacock Gudgeons 1.99 each!

how many males are in the group? it looks like its mostly females. My males really didn't start developing their hump until the last few weeks and now they are easily distinguished amongst the females.

Also, did you cap the end of the PVC pipes? Mine won't use any that aren't capped off.

didn't cap any thanks for the tip though I will do. I actually have some pipe I dipped in silicone and covered in sms That i will be using. It's drying I hate the bright white look in my tank right now. Yes they do look like mostly female to me at first too, they are kind of small hopefully some develop bigger foreheads lol

from what I've seen and also what Chris posted above, the females tend to have a black line edging their anal fin. This isn't 100% the case because there are some strain variants in which both sexes have the black edging but I believe it is a line bred thing.

I'll have several dozen available in the next 6-8 weeks so if you ever want to do a fry swap or if Chris ever gets a tank cleared out let me know :P

If you have any questions about the breeding/rearing process just shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to help.

the only bad thing i've heard about peacock gudgeons is that they can be picky eaters. I've kept mine for several months now and have several in all different stages of life, and have never seen them nip or anything of the sort. They do flare a lot, but they never actually do anything.

To combat the picky eater issue I've been feeding mine on everything but mostly flakes/pellets, so they readily accept basically any food you throw at them. That should make them more community compatible. I don't know for sure how much I'm going to be selling them for just yet but it won't be near 13.99 lol, that's insane. Although I might pay that much for large healthy breeders if I needed them.

On the breeding subject, I just pulled a pvc tube of 30-50 or so wigglers today.

They might use those but it seems like mine prefer smaller PVC. They completely ignore the larger tubes and always go for the 1/4" ones that they barely fit in. If they aren't breeding for for you after some time then it's worth giving a shot.

It's hilarious watching the male egg sitting because if you put food in front of the tube he'll come out and get it, and then back himself back into the tube walking backwards on his bottom fins
