Would pacu eat firemouth cichlid?!

I understand that release is not an option. that was my point. But really, why kill a fish that's only 8" because eventually it'll reach a much larger size? i don't beleive they should be sold, and neither does she, but she has it. If she can provide a large enough tank for it to enjoy life for even 1 year, why would she kill it? I know this is off topic from the OP, but sometimes i'm shocked by the black and white views on here.

I will so get flamed for this but simply put it is a fish, and a very common food fish at that.

If it is 8" at this point in a very fast time it will be easily 20-24". Has she hit the local sites like craigslist, kijiji, or other free add sites to try to rehome it. In the event that is not possible, night night is best option however clear cut that opinon may be the truth often is.

I do my utmost to provide the best for the animals in my care as evidenced by the amount of money spent on them, but, there is no way anyone will ever convince me to ever rehome a pacu again no matter how cute it smiles at me.

edit: and say 8 mths down the road this pacu has not grown large and fast, please don't take that as evidence that it is enjoying its 1 year reprieve as stunting is not enjoyed life. ie:foot binding sure the feet stay small but at what cost.

If you want to ship him I would gladly put him in my Pacu Pond. Just pm me for the address th I think you were kidding. Normally I'd pay for shipping but my fish rescue funds have gotten low since I have been laid off for two months and don't start my new job for a few weeks

and this is what im talking about

so what is the shipping cost

actually, I will talk to my friend and see if she's willing. do you think it could handle the shipping? unfortunately I'm thinking it'll be around $100 for the size and volume, but I'll look into it. pm coming your way!

also, consider the fact that even a pacu that is only 2 feet long can ram through the sides of a 240 without thinking twice.

only if your tank is poorly made.

I had a 19" pacu for several years that I grew up from a baby.

they are strong, no doubt, but they won't go through 1/2" thick glass or burst a seam unless your tank is not very well made...

Guys, if we have something to discuss about pacus that is not connected to the questions of steelshade, please do so in another thread.

I'll be sure to go start a new thread right away.

ontopic: I don't advise keeping smaller fish with pacu unless you don't reall care about the fish. Just cause they can kill it doesn't mean they will and just cause they haven't doesn't mean they wont
