At long last im gonna get one. But which one? Here are some specs it needs to follow
1. good
2.very quiet (very important as tank is in my room so im gonna have to sleep with it on easily)
2.easy to maintain
3.easy to set up
4. not very complicated
5. i want its maximum tank capacity double of my 30G

I think i might get a profesional filter but im not sure cos i have little to none eheim knowledge.

I've found a 2215 Classic to meet those criteria for my 46g. I would thing a 2213 would work as well for a 30g. The only drawback I could see for you is the lack of baskets, but bags would cure that problem.

go for the 2215. i have the 2217, its DEAD SILENT, easy to maintain, and keeps the water clear.

Over the years I have owned about every kind of filter out there EXCEPT a canister... never had one... until now...

For a number of reasons I decided to go with a canister on my new 47 gallon, and I was concerned about almost the same items as you. Did a ton of reading/talking and to be honest if money was no object, Eheim Pro 2. But in my case, money was an object and I decided to give an Eheim ECCO a try. I just finished setting it up and it's awesome. VERY simple, I don't see where it's going to be a maintenace issue, and it's quiet. Mine sits inside the stand and with the door closed I can't hear it. I mean SILENT. Door open there is a slight hum. Much less than any other filter I have had.

Big time Eheim fans don't seem real keen on the ECCO. But for the price, I am thrilled so far.

I just Entered the world of Eheim Canisters myself when i bought a 2128 for my 125 gallon. It would be a little large for your 30 gallon, but the 2126 or even the 2026 are all pretty much the same deal.

It is the quietest filter i've ever owned. I have a whisper air pump in the cabinet next to it and the sound of the airpump WAY over powers that of the filter.

I also like that the ProII's are available with a built in heater. One less thing to have in the tank.

As much as i appreciate your views that is exactly my problem. So many differnt people are saying different things so imn still not sure.

I don't think you are going to see the recommendations be overwhelming on a particular brand or model.

Everyones' requirements are a little different, and their approach to maintain a tank is different. Some folks like to customize the media they use, so something that gives them that is best. But if they want just simple filtration, another brand may be the better choice.

What is complicated to do maintenance on for you, may be a piece of cake for someone else.

I think the noise issues that most talk about are out of the picture for me taking them into consideration. For others, it may be the number one priority.

I haven't had to clean mine yet (I'm doe to remove the C pad), but from putting it tigether, I can tell you that the pads between the layers fit tight enough that it should be just a matter of tipping it and pour a layer of media into a sm. bucket, pull pad, repeat - rinse ea. medis type & pads in aquarium water, repack, done.

ps - I do have the dbl valves plumbed 1-2" from the inlet & outlet.

I've am interested in the ecco myself. Are there baskets that you can put actual media, carbon, rock, etc. Or are there only pads in this kind of unit?
