You know what really pi$$es me off?

Even easier is just getting a super long tube for your gravel vac and run the water out of a window. I have a 25 foot tube that works great. No buckets to dump or spill. I just get a little water in the tube then go outside and hemp get the water flowing by lifting the tubing up over my head and doing that till I'm at the end of the tube.

I would NEVER put my mouth on that thing! NASTY!!!

For a ten gallon it may seem like overkill, but who among us hasn't started with only one tank, then succumbed to the unfair ravages of MTS? Even if it never happens to you, and you can confine yourself to the one tank -good luck with that- a python still comes in handy.

One tank? Whats this you speak of?? LMAO! Is it actually possible to stop at one? Nooo!

*snort* Only took me a few months to get up to 5. Still looking too. Theres alot of space left on the main floors, and I havent' even scoped out the basement yet. Hmmmm, the possibilities!! Don't have a python *yet. But its on my 'have to have list'.

Only been in this hobby for a year (got my first fishie the day Katrina hit), and have 4 tanks; looking to upgrade the two 29's for 55/75...

Got a Python 3 months ago (PetSmart price match for $25). Do a 50% PWC on my tanks in less than 30 minutes.

Getting fishie water in the mouth when starting the siphon ain't as bad as a mouthful of gas or diesel...

Yep.....I do the icky fishy poo in mouth thing from time to time.........sloshing buckets......syphon hose jump out of bucket trick.......hit the tile floor trick........I even started syphoning out a tank once***then***walked away ! About 5 minutes later I hear my husband holler "HEY, there's water running all over the floor in here !!"

Been there, done it all I'm sure.........but none of it tops the incident a friend told me about. Her 4 year old son stuck a straw in the betta bowl and took a good swig. He was barfing in record time.....that'll learn him...he said "I'll never do THAT again !"

(Though, it makes me wonder how long it had been since she changed that water....

As much as I'd love to contract MTS...my landlord holds me back. I do have a 10gal and 2.5gal, so perhaps I have a mild case of MTS. Looking ahead, my next move will definitely be a 1st floor or home, as opposed to my 3rd floor, and a lax landlord. I may just have to purchase a better siphon/gravel vac and bigger bucket for now. I'll try the above mentioned siphoning method to see if it's a go. I may just be doing it wrong. Thanks for the input.

i use a penn plax gravel vac, you make a pumping motion under the water, and i guess air pressure and gravity does the rest.

it was really a stupid thing i did, all i had to do was leave the plastic tub in the bath tub.

yeah, most of the house is made of wood, my parents are worried about damage but it looks OK for now.

I'm surprised so many people use the mouth-to-poo method to start their siphons flowing. Eeewww!
