Zebra Moray in a 65 Gallon

Grins,
Ha, Ha, are you trying to make some poor excuse for fenner? For that's exactly what it is for he didn't want to talk to someone who would know his no idea on what is being posted at his link and books. Because he didn't want to chat with me after I told him of myself on the years and eel species I had through the years. I also told him of the period of time, 35 to 40 years that I had owned a number of different eel species and having at most times, seven eels.

I during that time had first in the early part of doing that, I was with the idea that I could manage to own most of the eel species. It came to me that by the 15-20th year, that wouldn't ever happen because I keep most the eels for 3-4 years and those that were most interesting, I keep up to seven years.

The manner in the excuse fenner has giving each time to get away from talking, points to me that I have to question what his level of knowledge really is. For if he were ever to want to talk with me, it would have to be face to face and not by email or at his link.

For if he were sick, he wouldn't had shown up then. NO, he just didn't want to talk to someone as myself who done so much in keeping eels for it would be more embarrassing that somebody in person has to say he were wrong. Still, I wasn't going to ask him anything as what names goes to this or that eel. I only wanted to make some comparison to his personal views to my own, and make some notes on any differences between his or my own personal views on whatever the topic might had been.

Now if I comment anything twice, please understand that I wasn't sitting at my computer straight through this, I typed some and had to stop a number of times for I other things that are going on here.

Im not angry with it any further after I first learn he would never talk with me on eels, I gone over that time to the other guy they had there to sell his books and I was able to ask him thoughts on the many different reef systems
:) ;)

It was just that I was more expecting the chat of a life time :nono:

Some LFS, agree that it is going to House in your tank, Just for the sale! If there saying yea it will thrive in your tank, and there smiling with a glint in there eye, Then your being bought as a fool!! Some stores don't care about where there live stock goes!! Just the money.. I would have done some research on the web first or checked out your local library and did some research! I have been aq victim of these types of Sellers! And there is no LFS, that I know would take back a purchase after selling it! Good luck, and may this be a lesson about LFS.

Peace

Well it was a LFS I worked at for a year, and I know the few employees very well and they are very experienced (The one guy has atleast about 700 gallons of sw in his house last I checked) and I know they weren't lying to make a sale. I have since gone back and asked the guy about the size my eel will attain, and he simply said "Well he won't grow that big in your tank". So I guess he just thinks stunting is acceptable.

And yes, old man would know more! My specialty is Sharks, so I am out of my league here, but I know the Pet stores around here are just out to make a buck, seeing I get 4 diffrent answers about stuff out of them, and then another from there boss! That is all I was saying!

Peace

Niko, Most anyone can know a good many things on many species, but what has giving me a greater understanding/knowledge within the types of eel species is that I had for sure more then a hundred in all and at first the idea in attempting to have every type of eel you can name, it was more of a kids quest to do something. But doing so, its giving me more then any link one could find. Unlike many, I not house together a SFE with a tess or and eel that feeds mostly on fish for that if anything did happen, the sfe would be totally defenseless.

Eels act out the two mostly known reasons for their aggressiveness and those are hunger and their lair for even that I a pair of goldentails now for a little more then five years, they most the time allow the other to feed with no problems and when one or both are truly hungry, they with both snatch offerings and make a contest to who will have it.

This is a fact of life with eels and also, this is something that you can hear from anyone for I consider it as basic knowledge. Also, anyone could know something I not for no matter how many eels I keep or in all the type of researching I done, one person can never know it all. For in understanding this, I not knock others for their horrible misfortunes for I was once at that needing to learn phase and once again due to the reef tanks to doing the one thing I never done all this time, SPS corals.

I do however believe that I on the other hand have one advantage there, I been doing aquariums.

I not wish to sidetrack the topic, but for the most part of those years from what im reading from many, I not had the red hair algae and I did get once or twice a little touch of red slime, I fix that with water currents before it has gotten out of hand.

There are many people who keep a zebra, I did long time as well and the ones you need more to talk to Liz are the one who had this eel for a long time, not just a few years, like 6-7 or better. Do know that stun growth is not acceptable for the eels health in the long term. I told you they can live a long time and take a good number of years to grow to even 4-5'

The issue for most of us is that we all not feed these eels the very same. For myself if I were to had ever decided to keep another zebra moray, I would first look on line to where I can get for it one of its favorite type of food, Crab> And maintain a supply of it in a holding tank.

I know of the spending in something as that, for what would one guess I spend on the eels food through the years? We all do what is considered our best for the inhabitants we have for many only get their foods from their local grocery store to where I not trust the idea of a grocery store for your no idea on how long they had the item and many items they sometimes refreeze many things due to their to much of it out.

Grin, if your here, I am with a typing problem and is somewhat what I call it as a difficulty to best explain myself, so sorry if you not understand most of my typing :(

I understand most Buddy, just a few things on occasion give me trouble. The main message comes across though no worries. Do I understand your advice to Liz to be similiar to many in that the 65 isn't preferrable for the good of the eel?

Sounds like he does think it is acceptable. I can't say I agree with him Liz. It is your decision of course.

I don't agree with him either. I am just saying I don't think there were any ill intentions in the sale. Had I known it would be stunted I wouldn't have bought it.

Hey Liz,the eel isn't so large right now im guessing and if its quite small as yet, you would have time to upgrade if you decide that you like to keep the eel and I know for many that money is an issue to how much one might spend. So if you doing reef now, you might want to consider to do not smaller then a 150 or a 180 if you can swing it. Eels like the zebra, SFE and chainlink grows quite slow.

There are two young kids who contacted me with a PM and one wanted to get a SFE and he first had some minor tank problems and I suggested that he waits until condition are good, but being a kid he was in a hurry. But the eel is doing fine and at first he had problems to feed it and after I suggested that he follows my advise on that little problem, the eel was eating the next day.

If you do decide to keep the eel and can go no larger then a 150, not over crowd the tank so much with corals. You need to allow room for the eel to move about, so not place all your corals to close together with each other.

With me Grins, I never suggest a 65 even for a SFE, there are a number of hobbyists who owns a SFE and their SFE are 4' from what they said. I know that their making an error at most in its size for the average max it normally grows is 3.5'
