If you could only have one pleco, which one would you chose?

I would probably chose a scarlet pleco (http://www.planetcatfish.com/ilibrary/loricari/pseudaca/188_5.htm) . They are very nice with the devils colors.

Any with the Minn. Wild colors? J/K. I wouldn't mind a Zebra, but my Otto does his job, so I would go for a shoal of them. Singularly, I would keep a Bristlenose. I am, of course, a little too conventional for all y'all!!!

I have to agree with Childawg, a Zebra for the exotic look or a Bristlenose for keeping the tank in order.

My L200 or my Gold Dot Bristlenose. Can't really decide between them.

I have an albino gibby....love the guy, even though he will eventually outgrow my tank. I hate to lose him, but it's really unavoidable.

i like my zebra pleco. even though he hides all day . people are always intrigued as to why i payed $60 for a fish that i never see. but they tend to stop after they see him.

it would depend entirely on the size of the tank. if i had a huge tank or pond an acanticus adonis or histrix would be cool. if more limited in space but still good sized tank it would be liposaurus or any pseudacanthicus. with a small tank it would be one of my L204 or this little guy:

Yeah, Gibbys get very large. I can't get one right now, but someday when I get that 180 gal aquarium I've been eyeing up. Right now I have 9 zebras. I really don't see them that much because I keep the aquarium covered up, hoping that they will breed.:)

I had a Sailfin for over 6 years, he was little over 2 inches when I got him and he's now a little over 18 inches. and does he poop alot! I ain't kidding! I say the smaller the better, an algae eater maybe:D

Wow that scarlet is AWESOME! I've never seen one before. Where might I be able to purchase one?

BY the way what is the average life span of a common pleco?

I don't know the "average", but I do know that plecos live for a very long time.

Its so tough but I would probably say MANGO(L047) or GOLD NUGGET(L177) or BOTH!!!

All my favorite plec's (can't decide a number one...too many cool ones!) are the Zebra, Gold Nugget, Red Tail Black Spot, Brown Zebra, and King Tiger. I have all but the first one. One can find rare plecs on the internet by doing a Google search or by looking in your lfs. Most lfs have at least one or two rare guys.

I really like the L-200s and the vampire plecos. But this guy is my favorite. I just got him about 3-4 months ago. He really has a lot of personality. He is a Goldie or Sunshine pleco L-14. He is about 8-9".

I may have to break down and get a pleco. I only want one and I want it to be small. Are there others besides the clown?/candystripe? pleco? I've seen these at a couple different lfs's and they say 4"max size. Any comments on them?

Bristlenoses are great for smaller tanks as they get around 5" max.

If I am not limited to just one (and not limited in aquarium size), I would like to have a Royal, a Goldy and an Albino Gibby in a 180 gallon.

I would have to go with my Mango. I just love the green color.
That Scarlet one is indeed beautiful. I may to see if I can get one.

For me it would depend on tank size for a smaller tank I would get a L-001 ( if I could find a place to buy them) but for a bigger tank I would go for a gibbiceps. But even with the gibbiceps I would have to choose between the albino and non-albino gibbiceps. I would also like a rhino pleco. They are all closely related just incase you didnt know.

Well, I just got 1 of the 3 that I want. I just got a baby goldie. About 2 inches long. Right now I am trying to make sure it starts eating.

L001 grows to 8"-10".. No small tank for them! Mine is 10 inches and my 60 gallon might be a tad small for him...

clayt101-

Congrats on your new goldie. You will love him. Try sticking some frozen bloodworms in the gravel in front of where your goldie hangs out. Mine absolutely loves the frozen bloodworms (live ones too, but they are harder for him to find since they burrow into the gravel a bit). Mine also likes cucumber and zucchini. Mine will not eat algae wafers. Good luck with him. I hope you can post some pics of him.

I know L-001 gets about 10" just saying smaller tank since a gibbiceps gets 18" and a rhino gets 12". So it would be a smaller tank not like a 20 gal or anything. Just a smaller tank then the gibby is what I was trying to get at.
