Yeah, today's photo isn't so good...

Found him this morning like this, breathing fine but not moving. Tested water and everything came out OK parameter wise and my so who knows whats up. Seems like the standard "dead fish after a week" syndrome. The hermits are doing find and running around the tank and they don't seemed stressed and I'm under the assumption that inverts are more prone to problems is if something was wrong with the tank. The only thing I did different yesterday was a water change and I fed brine shrimp instead of mysis. But I don't think that would do anything at this point.

That's too bad. He looked like a healthy fish. Yes, your crabs would have suffered from a parameter swing long before the fish. Everything went ok with the WC? Temp and SG matched up? How big of a change did you do?

He was DOA when I got home. The hermits had him pulled under a rock and were munching down. Oh well, I will let the tank run till this weekend and then we start again...

Pulled him out and looked him over and nothing seemed out of the ordinary so who knows what happened.

Where there is death there is life. I threw these shells in the tank a week ago for the hermits, low and behold one has a feather duster popping out of it. Crazy thing is that the shells are easily 5 or 6 years old, my mother got them from Hawaii during a vacation. I'm trying to get a pic, but my micro setting on my camera isn't the best. But, I'll keep at it.

Did a 2 1/2gallon change on Sunday, my SG was 1.023 and the temp was 79.5F. The SG was off by about .001 and the temp was only off a half of a degree.

This is the best picture I could get. The feather duster is on top of the white shell, but it is gone now and I think one of the hermits must have grabbed it.

Well, a week later and all is well. Haven't found a new fish yet, but the hermits are doing great. I have algae on my rocks now and they are grazing away. All my parameters are holding steady, so now it's time to find a new tenant.
