So all in all, I really should get rid of my full hood? Would both fixtures fit on the glass top?

Thanks

Both should fit without any problem. On the Glass top.
I have a 20g thats almost 17" tall.
The outside of the glass from front to back is close to 12 1/2".
I can put two of those strips on it.
Basically, one will sit on each peice of glass.

Edit: added "On the Glass top." ; )

Ok I'll have to look into it. Its just going to be a pain to take the light off everytime you need to get in. but, Thanks! I'll be sure to consider it.

Not sure if it will work in your application, but you could hang a 2-tube shoplite over the tank...assuming you have glass tops or can go open-top. The shoplite is 48" long, but you can use the 'extra' light to light up a small QT or growout tank too. With 2 32W T8 bulbs it works out to ~ 2W/gallon, considering the light 'spillage'. I have a shoplite over an open-top 20Long; I have no problem with growing amazon swords, or any other low-light plant-I also have 6 mangroves doing nicely in there.

+ you can hang the light high enough that access is easy.

If you end up using 2 fixtures, which is what I do on one of my tanks,I would get this for your second fixture,

I know you are trying to get 2wpg,but with the T5 bulb, and the reflector in this fixture,it will be more than sufficient. It is also a good price.
I would also consider pressurized CO2 over DIY.It's easier in the long run,but more expensive at the start up.

Ok, Is a co2 system considered a DIY? Cause i saw a hagen system at my LFS, and i was thinking about getting that for my tank.

I doubt it will work with your hood.
Most likely the opening on yours is just big enough for a single light fixture. A double light fixture will be 2 or 3" wider, front to back.

When I have two light fixtures on a tank. I just roll the front one upside down and back, onto the back one.

If this is the system you are referring to,http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2754083
That is just a fancy DIY( do it yourself) CO2 system. You can make one with a 2 liter bottle cheaper,http://www.thekrib.com/Plants/CO2/co2-narten.html

This is pressurized CO2,http://www.aquatic-store.com/en-us/dept_32.html
You will also need a CO2 bottle for it.You can get these either online or at a local welding supply store.
I think you had mentioned that you were going to run it through a cannister filter,so there is no need for a diffuser.
You will want a CO2 indicator,http://cgi.ebay.com.my/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180298263070
And you may want to get a solenoid valve so you do not have to turn it off and on every day.http://www.automatedaquariums.com/wm57100.htm

Like I mentioned,it's cost a lot more to get pressurized, but IMO,it's easier in the long run.
