They are mosquito larvae, the fuzzy stuff is fungus. It has nothing to do with any fish or plants that you bought. Fungus will grow on leftover food and dead livestock if left in any tank too long.

LOL... so technically he WAS right all along- they are maggots. :)

Maggots are the larvae of flies.

You got me questioning my sanity then and whether Mosquito's are really flies...

Maggot is the common name of the larval phase of development in insects of the order Diptera (flies).

So... is it just me, or is it not correct to call mosquito larvae maggots? I know we don't normally call them that- but they are.

None of us really believed he had maggots in his aquarium... but I guess technically he was right afterall!


Like all True Flies, they have two wings, but unlike other flies, mosquito wings have scales
They have scales! Perhaps they belong in a tank after all!
