If you say it slowly, syllable by syllable, how do you say betta?

Even though I know the correct pronounciation(sp?) is beh-tah I say it how I've been saying it for 7 years: bay-tah. :silly:

I say Bay-tah.
I think most people say it this way because the spelling is very similar to the greek letter beta. That's just my theory anyway.

Well, I don't know what is correct but because there are two "t's" I pronounce it "Bet ta". If it had one 't' I would pronounce it "Bay ta", like the Greek letter.
just my opinion.

As an example, canned vs. caned

Beh-tah. Like eroomlorac said, the two t's are what do it for me.

I think the second choice. If the spelling only had one t then I would choose the first one but with two t's, then I think the second one is correct.

I pronounce it bay-tah, although I still question myself. There's a ton of stuff I'm not too clear about in terms of pronunciation. One example would be Riccia. Ris-sia or Rik-kia?
But yeah, is there a right way of saying the name betta or do both work?
I tend to just avoid saying the name when I'm not too sure. Haha
