It's all nylon, and doesn't contain any soaps or cleaners like many of the metal pads do. Like that one erv:

Yup thats what I was talking about....you can find them at most dollar stores.

Put as many of them in the filter basket as you can and it will give the good bactera alot of surface area to cling too.

i'm using wire mesh scourers. . . but the pack doesn't say if they rust or not. the look EXACTLY like the pic that was posted, but not orange. they are silver.
