Adding angels to angels

yes, the larger angels can accurately be sexed, quarter sized ones though, sorry but it's unlikely.

how do you sex larger angels then? i have a breeding pair and the only way i can tell the sex is because i have watched them spawn

Female ovapositor is larger and blunted compared to the male organ.

If you're certain which angels make up your pair (should be pretty easy when there are eggs in tank), just pull either that pair, or the rest of the angels (the guys hiding on the other end of the tank) and move whoever out.

basically this is the way to definitely decide which is which.
like squawkbert suggest..look at the sex organs(ovipositor)

you guys are crazy, my angles are fine in the 45 gallon in the 75 gallon i am sure theyll be quite happy. if i could find maybe 2 full grown that i know for sure are female i will add them to my tank, and it will be a big happy angelfish family.

well, don't say we didn't warn you.

you asked for advice and you got sound advice. calling us crazy will not get you a sound response in the futire.
as for some of us..we have raised angel fish..I personally have raised them for several years.. I have several breeding pairs. and you will find that breeding pairs are very territorial.
granted you have subdued domestic angels..but even so..you run the risk of dead angels if you try to get too many breeding pairs in a small 75 g tank.
(it may seem relatively large until you have a couple breeding pairs in that tank.)

as for your ability to sex angels..you have a special skill that many learned angel breeders do not have...I think in the near future you will discover that female angels can appear to look like males..
you obviously have not seen enough angels to find this out.

Good luck

I breed angels for fun & very little profit. I may have a little more experience with angels than you, then again, me & my 30 some tank & 850 some gallon angel breeding setup may be wrong. Anything nickel size or smaller, flip a coin. Once they get to about 6-7 months, if you observe a group of angels settled in a tank, you can get about 75% accuracy with sexing, as long as the angels are from the same spawn. Males tend to start growing a little larger at this age, females energy is being diverted to growing eggs. Females will tend to get a little wider at the bottom. Sometimes you get large females, with smaller wider males, this is your 25% error rate.

For potential breeders you will need 5 gallons per angel, this is not a long term fish keeping situation, rather a situation where you are getting pairs for breeding purposes. You had better have a good backup plan when doing this, and be ready to act on it promptly.

I have some experience with stocking angels like African cichlids, meaning adults. I wouln't suggest this unless you first have a couple years observing angel behavior, and a couple back up tanks, like 29's or 40's, along with heaters & cycled filters at the ready. You also have to be willing to do things like call work in the morning telling them you will be late because you have a fish situation.
