Take it easy! Fish keeping is a learning experience. No need to be bashing people for making mistakes that all of us have done before.
Lfs's are more responsible for giving people bad info (i am not saying all lfs are like this just a lot of them).OMG! Un...effing...believeable!
How many more times will we see this kind of thing??
People PLEASE!!! Think!!!
Not to get technical but a learning experience means you learn while experiencing...but that is not the point. We have all made mistakes at some point in this hobby. And while I wish people would ask questions here first, like krytan said LFS's are the source for a lot of misinformation as is the internet. So rather than yell at someone for doing something wrong why don't you contribute to the thread in a positive way and help us educate the OP. That is what this forum is about. If you cannot say anything nice don't say anything at all :grinyes:Right! It's a learning experience. That means you should LEARN about it before you EXPERIENCE it. A little forethought goes a long way.
Dave should have been here asking these questions long before buying any fish!!!

Dechlorinator is much more practical than RO water when it comes to FW tanks. RO water literally removes everything (well to different degrees depending on the quality). Fish need certain minerals in the water and also RO water has no Kh value. Kh is your buffering capacity, which basically is what helps keep the pH stable. In pure RO water there is a very good chance your pH will crash, which is very stressful to fish. Those with RO water usually buy commercial supplements or mix with tap water. However, if your tap water is safe to drink it is most likely safe for fish. Just dechlorinate it and it should be perfectly fine to use in your tank. What good stuff might R.O remove?
Perhaps it is more practical to use dechlorinator instead?
People learn from their mistake..
everyone makes mistake before isnt it?
