10 Gal Moss Journal

I usually boil my wood in a plastic container in the tub. Change the water with hot water from the tap around every 20-30 minutes or so. In the end I still get tannins :S.

since the wood pieces are small soak them in hot water in a bathtub for a few days, changing out the water every hour or so. Manzanita wood out of all the woods out there, doesnt release as much tannins and what it does release gets flushed out with the first soak..

Looks like you are on a good start, only thing i would suggest is replacing the actinic bulb. Also if you plan to make it a moss tank then you should really cut down the hours the light stays on. With 3.6wpg over a 10g tank you are on the verge of getting an algae farm.

The 2 bulbs are connected to each other so its a bit hard right now. I actually kind of like it because it really brings out the color. So far the manzanite is starting to sink and stay down but some are still stubborn. A few of the peices I did put in are worrying me a bit because I believe bacteria of some sort is growing on them creating this weird, white film that looks like cobwebs. Im thinking of bring the peices all out and scrubbing all of them down and start soaking them again. I did put a pair of blonde guppies I got in the tank and they like it. They hate the power head I put in so I turn that off at night and during feeding. I actually leave the lights off for 17 hours of the day due to me being at work and sleeping and only turn them on for awhile because of that algae issue. I should have an uodate later tonight after I get home. The aquascaping I have in there right now is annoying me a bit, but doesnt look to bad. Atleast the 2 guppies like it....

it's normal for driftwood to go through growing that white stuff on it, it should balane itself out in a few weeks
