The Aquarium hobby is an old and noble one.
I feel that over the years, whilst other hobbys and areas of society have embraced technology and made it work for them - the fish hobby has remained relatively stagnant in terms of using modern technology.
Science and technology is progressing, I won't dismiss anything without investigation and tests. I'd hope that all the people that have so cuttingly dismissed this product have tried it themselves. Not saying it does work, not saying it doesn't - but it is very easy to be set in ones ways and simply dismiss anything new.

so let me get this straight
because i advocate a company such as SEACHEM whos products by the way are not only only the cutting edge of technology but also affordable and ultra effective
that im stagnant for advising against an obvious cash grab product that requires crazy amounts to be used on a weekly basis

It's always a good idea to research a product and read the reviews on it before actually purchasing it. I am guilty of not always doing that, myself and/or sometimes I will try a new product out of curiosity and compare my results with others. I tried the product in question when it first became available to see if it would indeed reduce nitrates. It didn't have much of an impact at all and I stand by my opinion of it being a waste of money. I just don't want to see some unsuspecting newbie going out and buying this product with the intention of avoiding their water changes/maintenance while thinking things are now just fine and dandy with their new bottle of 'fix-it-all.'
If you do use the product, at least keep a record of the results and be sure that you are indeed receiving all the benefits that the product claims...then compare those results with cheaper or 'tried and true' methods.

This is obviously a situation that no one will agree on. I have used and am using this product and I do get results. I'm not saying it does everything it says it does. I do regular water changes. It would appear that this product seems to work, or at least partialy work, in one particular/specific setup/environment and not in another, or atleast that is what the info that is accesable from this forum says. I have read info saying it works and I have read info saying it doesn't. I have not always used this product and in the future may not use it.

I'm extremely inexperienced but after 24 hours of using it as directed on the bottle it killed my cardinal tetra school and I was really :swear: I will never use that sh*t again
but even on the bottle it still recommends that you do once a week water changes even after using it so I would just save my $$

I was just saying that the technology of fishkeeping seems relatively stagnant when compared to other areas of society.
My other point was people shouldn't simply dismiss something without some kind of conclusive facts.

My opinion is that if people want to buy chemicals to "fix" things, then go ahead, spend your money. For me, I would rather not waste money on something that A) is either not in need of fixing and/or B) I can do virtually for free ie water changes. I recommend not using them, and it's mainly from an economic standpoint, but it's not my decision. I am always suspicious of products that claim to reduce the need for maintenance which is why I personally tend to stay away from them.

what im saying is this 9 bucks for a bottle of prime that treats 1000g vs the cost of most other bottles same volume treating 1/4 the water for equal cost if not more since the yeild to purchase price is much more with prime makes it a hands down for the win with seachem products :headbang2:
i use the salt for my sw/brackish and of all the companies out there i find them to be cutting edge :dance:
