Ecotech VorTech MP10

We've been doing remodeling in our house lately and the workers managed to move the tank over about a foot without taking any water out or anything! The fish didn't even notice or skip a bit...they did it so smooth that not a single thing in the tank moved.

So, now that I will leave ample clearance behind the tank, would it still be fine to put the pump on the left side? I think I put a picture of the tank earlier in the thread...reason I ask is because the overflow is near the left side of the tank.

I'd put it on the side to allow for a longer distance for a traveling wave.

What side? Right side or left side? Does it have anything to do with where the overflow is? That was my question.

I would put it on the side adjacent to the overflow. That way the flow can cause a gyre effect and direct debris toward the surface and toward the overflow. Placing it opposite the overflow will result in a "gush" of water into the overflow on certain settings, which can be noisy.

Ok, so I played around with it a little today...I put it on the back of the right side, the middle and the side of the right side. Being that I have never had a pump before...I don't know what to make of it. It seems like I may need at least a couple...but that may be due to the set up of my rocks. For the money, it does not seem to be worth it to me, but maybe I am not operating it optimally or placing it optimally...I don't know. The flow doesn't seem as "broad" as everyone says it is, but that may be due to my rockwork also. I really don't know as I have nothing to compare it to. I expected it to pick up all the settled sand on my rocks and everything all over the tank...not the case.

Help?

Did you adjust the pin spacer on the unit?
Are the two halves properly aligned (wet side and dry side)?

In a 72g, one MP40 should create a substantial amount of flow. I've seen 120g tanks with just one that weren't lacking in flow.

Yes, I did all that. Anybody that lives in Los Angeles that would like to come help me maybe? = )

Would it help if I took picture of my tank from different angles?

It could help. If it's too close to a corner or the rock is close to the output, it can hinder performance a little.

What mode are you trying to run it on?

I would much prefer to have it on the back of the tank...since I have a black background and I prefer the equipment to be hidden.

Amp said to put it on the left side...next to the overflow. We are doing remodeling in the house right now, so the tank is at a slant right now and I can't even access that side. We are moving the tank from the kitchen to the living room although and it will be accessible from every side once we put it in the living room.

I found this interesting mod on a forum where someone put a director on theirs to point the flow. How hard would this be to do? I know you guys are all about modding...:D
