Baby update

I've been removig mine from the main pond to keep them away from the big ones. Other than feeding them and cleaning filters, that's as much as I wanna disrupt mother nature. lol.

Lost 3 to the filter overnight... Not sure why though. I thought they knew better.

Eh, it was only a few... I still have a bunch more, and keep getting new batches of eggs! lol. The batch I just took out of the pond today was huge!

hopefully I'll be getting a 20 gal tank to put the eggs, tiny babies and airator in then i can see them better... i'm gonna put one of my smaller plants in... I think it's an iris, dunno. it has wide grass like leaves and gets pretty purple flowers on it.

OMG! lol.... um, I'm gonna have tons more eggs. I'm thinking they should hatch tomorrow. I didn't think there were that many fertile ones on the eggie thing but apparently there are! wowza!

Went to the bucket this morning and I was right... they've hatched, and there's tons!

Picked up my 20 gal from the lady and filled it about half way for now.

Got 2 bubblers running, a small pond plant and picked up a pack of aquarium plant bulbs from walmart. skeptical about the bulbs but it's worth a shot.

For now, I've got tons of happy babies.

I plan on getting a filter for it and switching babies around. gonna put the newborns in the 5 gal and the biggest babies in the 20.... mid sized ones will stay in the 10. The biggest ones will probably get put in the pond at some point but taken back out in the fall if they don't seem big enough to survive the winter outside.

Maybe pics soon.... the newborn tank is kind of ghetto looking, I'm kind of embarassed. lol.

One of my older babies is a really bad swimmer... he hangs out at the bottom of the tank. I put him in with the tiny babies to give him a chanc to develop. I think his front fins are under developed. if he eats a couple tiny babies, I won't mind, doubt he will though... If he doesn't look to be swimming better soon, I might take him next door to become food. my neighbor has a couple convicts in a kick *** tank... I'm jealous. a few of my other babies will be ready for the pond soon! 2 look like they'll be white most of the rest look brownish so I'll assume they'll be orange and like 3 have some shubunkin in them so they'll be pretty.... even with their bent tails. lol

I have found fry to be 90% brown/copper color and change w/age and food. You can def. tell the have Shubunkin lineage w/the solid black eyes.

How often are you doing WC's on the 20?

haven't done any yet, probably will do one this weekend...

my bad swimmer is still doing well as far as I can tell.

One of my inch babies has a problem with his tail... I was feeding them this morning and noticed that it looks like he has blood in his tail fin. It's not coming out of his fin so it's not a cut, but I don't know how it happened. he's still darting around and eating like he's starving so I'm hoping he'll be fine. Maybe he was being picked on...

For the little one w/swimming issues, could it be swim bladder?

Possibly, he seems to be able to dart up and kinda bop around side to side but he always goes back to the bottom...

If that's it, is it fixable?

Watched the inches for a while... the one with the blood in his tail was being picked on... I probably made a bad choice by putting him inthe small part of the pond because of risk of infection, but I really had no other choice. he would have eaten the newborns and probably have picked on the smaller ones. I just hope the inches don't start picking on someone else.
